The rest of the article seems to be behind a paywall. Just heard the same headline announced on local radio. If true, it is truly disappointing.

So, Roy Moore or ... who? Tim James? Ugh.

So far it seems to be either U.S. Rep. Bradley Byrne or former Auburn football coach Tommy Tuberville.

Byrne should be able to beat Jones. Tubberville? That seems riskier, unless there is just a groundswell of support for him.

The Mason-Dixon poll of 400 registered Alabama voters who identify as Republican showed Moore with 27 percent support, followed by U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks, R-Huntsville, at 18 percent, and the only declared candidate, Republican Congressman Bradley Byrne of Fairhope, at 13 percent. U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer, R-Hoover, had 11 percent support while Alabama Senate President Del Marsh had 4 percent and businessman Tim James was sixth at 2 percent. A quarter of those polled were undecided.

If Moore is nominated, Bush League Republicans will once again work to get the Democrat elected.

Whoops. Missed the highlight on "Bradley Byrne of Fairhope, at 13 percent" and then ping'd the wrong FRiend. Time for more coffee. Mea Culpa.

I hope Luther Strange does not jump back in.
Id even support Sessions as a Senator.

A Freeper from Alabama suggested yesterday that Alabama Congressmen sometimes have a difficult time getting traction in a statewide race because they're not well known outside their own districts.
I wonder if Brooks decided against running for the Senate because he doesn't want to have the GOP face the same disaster as last time -- when a divided vote among conservative voters put Roy Moore in the runoff against Strange.
If the GOP has its act together in Alabama, they will get behind one dominant candidate and avoid a runoff altogether.

Thanks, Alas, for calling this to my attention. I am sorry to hear this news. Sort of.
Ping to the State List. I’m sorry I was tardy. I’ve been at church. Today is Good Friday! PTL! I’ve been redeemed!

Bad news in AL. Byrne is an Establishment-bot, Tuberville I have no idea. Moore can make a viable argument he was screwed out of his win on fraud, RINO sabotage and scurrilous lies. We need Twinkle Cavanaugh to get in the race.

I voted for BB for governor in 2010. The story then was that he was in the clutches of the AEA. That's enough for me to look elsewhere in 2020.
Regarding Twinkle Cavanaugh - going from state Public Service Commissioner to U.S. Senator seems a mighty big jump. I'll wait and see.
Roy Moore is past his sell-by date.
Tommy Tuberville's Wiki bio says that his campaign will be assisted by former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer. He's 64 with no prior political office service. Yeah, I know, and neither did POTUS #45 DJT. Still, I will wait and see ...
To: MacNaughton
Turned out both Bentley & Byrne were embarrassments.
Cavanaugh would be Lt Governor today had there not been a primary runoff as she placed 1st in the primary. She’s already won statewide twice, so that’s a net positive in her favor. I think she could easily take down Jones, and has no baggage (not that the media wouldn’t make something up, of course, as they did with Moore). DC needs more female Conservatives.
