GOP leaders dead set against Roy Moore in Alabama
The HIll ^ | April 18, 2019 | Alexander Bolton

Republicans in Washington are dead set against Judge Roy Moore being the party’s Senate nominee in Alabama next year and say they will do whatever is possible to prevent that from happening.

Moore is expected to announce a decision soon on whether to challenge Sen. Doug Jones (D-Ala.), a top Republican target, and a new poll shows him leading a field of possible GOP Senate candidates.

... he was cheated out of a seat ...

You should ditch this from any of your arguments in support of Moore. He wasn't "cheated" out of anything. It wasn't his seat to begin with, and I have seen no credible allegations of voter fraud. The guy was just an awful candidate who couldn't get people to come out and vote for him.

My god, have you looked at what’s come out my home state (Minnesota)in the last 20-30 years?

I acknowledge he was wronged but a replacing Ginsberg with a reliable conservative vote is more important then Roy Moore!

I voted for Mo Brooks in the first primary. He was the one the Es really went after.

Then I held my nose and voted for him two more times.

Nevertheless, he was a disaster as a candidate. Wasn’t even in the state the weekend before the general. Terrible candidate. Terrible response to the creepy story.

I wish he would just go away.

Voted for Moore two times, that is.

As far as I know, the only credible claim against Roy Moore is that he dated high school girls, most of them from his church, all of them older than the legal age of consent, with the permission of their parents, when he was 30 years old.

Since he lived in a small southern town at that time, it’s quite possible that most women closer to his age were already married, or unappealing, or not interested in him.

It is very depressing to me that “Conservatives” mock and condemn Roy Moore, but they support Donald Trump, who has previously bragged on dozens of occasions about his own womanizing.

If he votes conservative every time, that’s good enough for me. I never believed any of that crap against him, any more than I believed the crap about Kavanaugh. Unfortunately, I can’t caste my vote for him, since I don’t live in Alabama. But those of you who think he’s a perv, tell me -— whatever happened to his accusers? They evaporated into thin air as soon as Moore lost, as far as I can tell. That speaks volumes.

That's a fair point.

I've had nothing to say about Moore's personal ethics and morals. I have been highly critical of him as a political candidate.

Donald Trump always came across as an absolute winner, and an engaging political candidate. Moore wasn't even unimpressive as a candidate, in my opinion. He was downright awful.

He didn’t have his shot. Party leadership, which despises Deplorables, sabotaged his campaign. And they’ll do it again, rather that have a US Senator who Mitt Romney and his fellow Illuminati can’t control.

You need to understand that there are true constitutional conservatives in Alabama. Mo Brooks (who McConnell and the RINOs went to war to defeat him in the special election primary) is a good example. He would defeat the ‘RAT incumbent in a cake walk in 2020.

McConnell and the National Chamber of Commerce RINO’s will certainly run someone to oppose Mo in the primary. But 2020 is NOT A SPECIAL ELECTION, so the RINOs won’t have the luxury of concentrating all their artillery on the Alabama primary as they did last time in Alabama.

As a judge of a lower circuit you don’t get to pick and choose what statutes you wish to follow from the upper courts. That my friend is what we call judicial tyranny and if I’m not mistaken what most around here bemoan about incessantly.

No offense to anyone from Alabama here, but I look at all of the prominent Alabama Republicans I've seen in the news over the last few years: Jeff Sessions, Luther Strange, Richard Shelby, Roy Moore ... and I've got to tell you -- I find it astonishing just how marginal (at best) these people are. Is this really the best y'all have to offer??

No offense taken because we have an "establishment" in Alabama just like Washington. Rep. Gary Palmer would be a great senator but has not yet decided to run.

They gave Roy Moore no support in his US Senate run. You can’t blame him for his attitude toward party leadership. Party leadership is vile to anyone they don’t control.

Also you don’t “stand up” to upper courts in lower circuits. You sound like you are in favor of anarchy and judicial tyranny. If there was an issue with what the federal circuit did SCOTUS could very well have been summoned up and taken the side of Moore. In this case he was a judicial activist that has no place being on the courts to begin with

No matter how you shake it dating teenagers is pedophilia plain and simple and it’s utterly disgusting and to support it is disgusting too.

Go back and read my post. I'm referring to Moore's antics after his GOP primary runs in the Alabama governor's races of 2006 and 2010.

He burned his bridges with the Alabama party leadership back then.

The 2006 debacle was particularly disgraceful. Losing a primary race against a popular sitting governor and then complaining about a "rigged" primary and refusing to concede a race he lost by 30 points is something I'd expect from a childish, mentally unstable man.

All of this makes me wonder why this dope insists on running in GOP primaries at all.

If you have teenage daughters how about we let a grown ass republican man date them? That’d be alright wouldn’t it? Grown men dating teenagers is pedophilia no matter how many ways you wish to obfuscate it. His dating teenagers as a grown man isn’t even up for debate. And if you’re a-ok with it maybe you’re in the wrong forum.

1970s vs 1940s is a completely different time. In the 70s the age of consent was either 18 or 16 dependent upon where you lived. Either way any grown man “dating” anyone under the age of 18 is either socially stunted or a sick perverted pedophile. How is anyone on these boards defending a grown man dating a teenager?

It’s sickening
