Its just a fact of life that handguns are now permanent legal fixtures in the American landscape. We have to live with that.
But the freedom to own a firearm doesnt mean it has to be free of charge. It doesnt mean that owners cant be a tiny bit inconvenienced. And someones right to own a gun certainly does not trump the safety rights of the rest of us.
This is what the pro-gun people dont seem to understand.
Gun rights advocates in Illinois are in an uproar over legislation that is being debated in the General Assembly. The bill simply would make it harder for people who arent supposed to have guns to legally obtain them.
The amendment to House Bill 96, sponsored by Rep. Kathleen Willis, is one of several bills introduced in the aftermath of a multiple shooting at a manufacturing warehouse in Aurora in February.
Of course, we dont know if stricter state laws could have stopped 45-year-old Gary Martin from shooting five co-workers to death, in addition to injuring five police officers, after learning he was to be terminated. But many Illinois residents are demanding that our lawmakers at least give it a try.

Trick question!
There is no gun crime in Chicago due to the very strict gun laws passed to protect the police officers of Chicago.
I don’t think they’re that stupid. I think they are cunning, sinister and power-mad. Take Swalwell for instance. I think he KNOWs that outlaws would still have guns. But I believe his wicked, jealous heart craves power over you and me.....to the extent that he said he’d nuke us to get our firearms.
The first amendment DOESN’T SAY so-called journalists can’t be licensed, can’t be regularly tested, can’t go under civilian review, and can’t be be suspended for bias.
“How much gun crime in Chicago is committed by black people?”
How much is committed by people that couldn’t legally own a gun? 90%? More?
Freedom from tyranny is always expensive.
Doesn’t talk about voting either. Let’s bring back the poll tax....oh wait...
What? No more free guns? Oh man, whatll they think of next? /s
Most or all of it.
Then SHUT UP and QUIT WRITING, because nobody said freedom of speech was “free of charge”!
Swalwell wants the citizenry disarmed to serve a larger social purpose: when homes are invaded and helpless residents are robbed, beaten, or killed, the survivors will then experience a raised consciousness that makes them determined to address the “root causes” that caused the criminal driven by those causes to commit his dastardly act in the first place.
Liberal logic is so wonderful......
Abortion. transgender surgery, and euthanasia
So, I guess that the writer of this piece would happily pay a hefty fee to type her drivel?
What an idiot... Gun Lovers... Handguns are tools like hammers and saws. Made to perform a certain tasks that their designed to do..
Sure, lots of folks have guns for recreational purposes, but pistols are pretty much for up close protection of oneself and their own family..
If that blathering fool wants to know what gun owners love most, IT'S LAW AND ORDER..!! If you want to fix the shooting problems in Chicago, why not try getting the drug dealers and gang bangers off the streets...
I guess that, in the writer’s mind, it is not out of the question to pay a fee for the authorities to secure a search warrant before searching your property.
EVERYTHING the left does or suggests concerning "gun control" is EXACTLY intended to INFRINGE on the right of the individual.
Not in explicit language, no. But pray tell Dahleen, what part of "shall not be infringed" do you NOT understand?
How far the Chicago Trib has fallen since the pro-gun days of the 1930s.
Some ideas just take 240 years to sink in.
Let’s see, we could require a license to write for publications, a civics test for voting, etc.
That’s how you keep the low income people which are often “those with the wrong colored skin” from having guns that could interrupt Tiffany’s 16th birthday cotillion with all the other richies. Like in CT where it costs $116 at only one building in all of CT to get a long gun or ammo “certificate”.
