PARIS, April 15 (Reuters) - Notre-Dame Cathedral went up in flames on Monday in a roaring blaze that devasted the Parisian landmark, one of France's most visited places.

Flames burst through the roof of the centuries-old cathedral and quickly engulfed the spire, which collapsed.
A huge plume of smoke wafted across the city and ash fell over a large area.
Firefighters cleared the area around the cathedral, which marks the very center of Paris.
President Emmanuel Macron canceled an address to the nation that he had been due to give later on Monday evening. A presidential official said Macron was to go to the scene of the blaze.
"A terrible fire is under way at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris," Mayor Anne Hidalgo said on Twitter.
France 2 television reported that police were treating the incident as an accident.

The catastrophe of a ruined sanctuary is a horror. Worse is the abomination of desolation in the heart of a God-denying person or nation.

Notre Dame fire caused by Muslims?
Just a hunch in case it rings a bell.
This one window (there are 3 of them) is 42 feet across. It's made of thousands and thousands of pieces colored glass. The Rosette, as it’s called, portrays Christ in the very center of all this brilliance, in triumph, reigning as King of Creation. He is portrayed in heaven, surrounded by all of his witnesses on earth.
Below it are the sixteen prophets representing the heavenly court. The four greatest prophets --- Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel and Daniel --- are portrayed as carrying the four evangelists: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
The three rosettes of Notre Dame are among the greatest masterpieces of Christianity. I am in tears as I am typing this.
In the wake of numerous church attacks since February, it's likely due to terrorism.

That stained glass was so beautiful. I read they were created and installed in the 1200s. And these were so important and meaningful to people when literacy was so rare among the population. Again, I am so sorry this happened.
There are enough forests in Europe to build millions of Notre Dames. 10s of billion cubic meters of usable lumber. Perhaps you should clarify your statement?

My first guess (like many here) was that it was those "Hare Krishnas", working at this company...
(But, I could easily be totally wrong about that wild guess.)
I think that security has been focused on someone bringing something in and there were the propane tanks a few days ago which was stopped.
But they never really looked at the workers.
Supposedly Notre Dam had very tight security. Why don’t we wait and see.
