Notre Dame cathedral has caught fire, according to the Parisian fire service and eyewitnesses.
Footage posted online shows a large fire engulfing the upper part of the cathedral, with the flames licking around its two bell towers.
A major operation was under way, the fire department added, while a city hall spokesman said on Twitter that the area was being cleared.
Officials in Paris said the fire could be linked to renovation works being carried out at the cathedral.
It comes after France's Saint Sulpice church , used in the filming of Dan Brown’s ‘Da Vinci Code’ thriller, caught fire in March.

It’s been reported that Macron was meeting with police officials. It didn’t say if it was the Paris Metro PD ,the National Gendarmarie, the Surete. I doubt it was about traffic control and city service. That would be a job for the Mayor of Paris. I would have expected he meet with Fire Brigade officials to get a handle on prospects forvtotal collapse, but FOX clearly said Police.

A Turkish language media outlet is reporting, FWIW, that French authorities are saying the fire cannot be extinguished.

No idea on the construction of the building, I’m willing to bet that much of the interior structure was built out of heavy timer. Once an old heavy timber building catches fire unless it is almost immediately stopped they will end up burning to the ground. No about of water will stop a building like that once it gets going.

Doubt it’s manpower. I’ve seen French language media reports stating that at least 400 firefighting personnel are on scene.
