Over the last few weeks, a contentious debate has taken place in Idaho over whether or not 18 to 20-year-olds should be allowed to carry concealed. In the Gem State, Constitutional Carry is legal, meaning anyone over 21 is legally allowed to carry a firearm, both open and concealed, without a permit.
Although someone has to be 21-years-old to purchase a handgun from a federal firearms licensee (FFL) a gun store a person between 18 and 20 can legally own one through a private party transfer (PPT). The way the 2016 Constitutional Carry bill as written made it to where only those 21 and over could legally carry a handgun in city limits. In urban areas however, those 18 and over could carry. If someone between 18 and 20 wanted to carry they had to receive a special government permit.

Amazing how some states (Like Washington, Oregon, Florida, etc.) are trying to take away Second Amendment rights from 18-20 year olds, and other states are following the constitution and granting new rights to that same age group.
I’m not even convinced our 21 year olds have the maturity to do some legal things these days.
As for 18 to 20 year olds?
I would hope the state involved would indicate a more mature groups of young people.
In the inner cities, I believe this would be very problematic.
Good luck with that nowadays.
Liberals just want to send those 18 yr olds to war, not enforce their constitutional rights!
Is Bruce Otter still the Gov of ID?
Vermont State law allows those age 16 and older to carry concealed with nobody’s permission. Younger folks can carry with a note from Mom or Dad.
Our homicide rate is usually one of the lowest in the country.
It’s been this way since 1791, but I’m sure our progressive super-majority will try to change it soon.
...Butch Otter.
Well, we are talking Idaho not new york/new jersey here. :-)
I openly carried at 18, while working for my uncle. I also carried an assault rifle.
Glad to hear how that’s worked out there.
Nice to know. It reduces my concerns.
In our gang infested areas though, man would that be a zoo.
Yes, that’s true.
I found this interesting, because they have that system now. Hasn’t turned out to bad either.

Right. Because now, the inner-city young thugs observe that the law prohibits them to buy or carry handguns ... and to murder other people with them ... and so they refrain from these activities.
I bet the happy-switch actually had three settings ...
My binary trigger has three settings - safe, semi-auto and echo mode.
What it would mean is that ever gang member would be carrying in all places.
Now that may seem okay, because you might think the right people would be carrying too.
In some of our areas, there are no right people. Then again, one right person in a group of five to thitry wrong people doesn’t equal out very well.
They pretty much do that already, so this discussion is moot. The only people who don't carry in our uban $#!+holes are the law-abiding types, and not all of those.
I avoid urban $!#+holes ...
Yeah, well you can try to avoid anything you like. We have roving groups here.
You can be in a calm peaceful setting one minute, and in the midst of problems the next.
Whether I wish to mix it up or not, I don’t like dragging a spouse or other family members into this type of a situation.
And no, not all gang members carry now.
Not after a weekend or two.
MP5? Thompson sub-gun? M16?
