The slow-motion disaster undermining New York’s economy
New York Post ^ | 04/02/2019 | Micheal Goodwin

Posted on 04/07/2019 7:30:39 PM PDT by MaxistheBest

Over the last week, Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the Legislature picked the pockets of city and state taxpayers with a spending plan that takes and takes, then takes some more.

They did it quietly, like assassins, with only peeps of protest. Disagreements over which taxes to raise were settled by raising them all. Such is life in a one-party town.

As a result, New York is taking a giant leap toward the promised land of democratic socialism. The cost of living here already is soaring and Albany responded by injecting a huge dose of high-octane fuel. Expect a crash landing.

The pain comes in the form of new, renewed or hiked levies on Manhattan-bound motorists, real estate, income, pharmaceuticals, paper bags and rental cars. And that’s just for starters.

The pols also put in motion a plan to spend $100 million for public financing of their campaigns, then celebrated by giving themselves huge pay hikes.

Hooray for us!

Find a cheaper house with more bedrooms and take her mother with you.
Have a fully loaded guest house on my property (kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, small living room, smaller dining room, and pantry), tried for 9 years to get my mom to sell her huge house in Bakersfield, Ca.
Told her take the money and travel, have fun, and just use my guest house as a home base.
No rent, no utilities, no property taxes, her house-her rules; just relax and enjoy the rest of her life.
She was hung up on that house in Bakersfield and died there.
My brother was the closest living relative she had and he was 200 miles away.
Kind of a shame; my brother and I would have liked for her last years to be fun and worry free, guess we all got our stubborn and independent attitude from her.

the guy who wrote that article is wrong....the state takes, takes, takes but it also gives to its favorites...the state teachers and other state workers who get fabulous pensions and pay no state tax on them.....

eg..my ex teacher sister....took the money and ran at age 57....now has a part time house in Florida as well as her main place in NY.....she better not vote in both states or I'll turn her in myself.....she and her type of shallow thinking liberals will ruin florida...( i actually love my sister )

It’s like their roots.

Hard to get em to move.

I am sorry for your loss.

As far as passing there, my mom and a million other moms I know want to stay where they’ve been until the day comes.

But you tried and asked a lot. That’s all you could do.

Sounds great, the place, by the way.

Your guest house is as big as my whole house lol

wow.

I think we're stuck in our leftist land here in Washington....but if I could move without thought of my adult dtrs botox treatments or dystonia or my other adult children who live in the northwest I would choose a bland middle of the country state..one that is not too prosperous with not a lot of illegals or bums.....

like South Dakota...or Idaho...or Nebraska.....

Most of New York state's area is Republican, including Richmond (Trump +17%, +28k votes) and Suffolk (Trump +8%, +52k votes) Counties, right next to the Supermassive Blue Hole. Hillary won only 16 among NY's 62 counties, including wins by just 367 and 265 votes (Columbia and Clinton counties)...

She won the bluest boroughs (Kings, Queens, Bronx, New York, and Westchester... not technically a borough) by 462k, 335k, 284k, 457k and 124k... +1.402m total... it was 1.887m to 485k... a 79-19 split for the metropolis... Bronx and New York counties were an 89-10 split each... and Trump was born in Queens, unlike the carpetbagging Chicago-born Hillary.

And as a reminder of how the Electoral college works, she won those 5 NY counties by 1.402m, and she won LA county by 1.273m and she won Cook County (CHI) by 1.088m... those 7 counties alone totaled a +3.763m vote lead... which is more than her 2.869m national vote lead... which means that our President won the election by almost 1m votes in the less-important 3,158 US counties and the 19,688 other less-important incorporated cities in the US. Those 3 cities are more important, and should determine our Presidents going forward.

By an amazing coincidence, she laid claim to CHI by birth and NY by serving as Senator there... focusing on two of the 3 largest cities... while insisting that the Electoral College does not cause candidates to focus on the largest cities...

The 6 counties surrounding SF Bay also accounted for another +1.16m for Hillary.
Seattle (King Co) and SE FL (Miami, Broward, Palm Beach Co) accounted for another 1.1m.

So those 6 metro areas (NY, LA, SF, SEA, MIA, CHI) total +6.02m for Hillary...
Trump takes the rest of the US by over 3m.

Trump won Phoenix by 41k, the 5th largest city... but that was the only one of the top 20 cities that he took. OKC was the second-largest that he took... in a state that went 77-0 for Trump (in counties).

Even with Trump carrying the state, it seems PA is resembling NJ and NY more and more (being dominated by a few urban concentrations).

Correct on PA.

There really is no safe place anymore. Some states are better on taxes and conservative values, but even many of those are falling to liberalism.

I remember 10 years ago, people on FR used to laugh and scoff when an Eastern state or California passed a draconian gun law.

Now, you see those laws being enacted everywhere. After the Parkland shootings, Louisiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Utah, Florida, Delaware, Nebraska, Tennessee, and South Dakota all passed a flurry of gun laws.

I remember when California was a Ronald Reagan, Republican state - and that wasn't that long ago.

Texas is being overwhelmed by Illegals, and we are already seeing political changes there.

Internationally, where do you go?

I know a pretty rich guy who always talked about moving to New Zealand. Their political leadership is the absolute worst.
