Merida, April 3, 2019 Venezuelas National Constituent Assembly (ANC) has lifted the parliamentary immunity of the self-declared Interim President Juan Guaido, opening the door for criminal charges to be brought against him.
Tuesdays unanimous decision came following a request from the Supreme Court, and included the authorisation of the continuation of investigations into the also deputy and president of the National Assembly.
The investigation [against Guaido] is formally authorised to continue in accordance with our Constitution and laws said ANC President Diosdado Cabello during the session. Cabello added that justice was necessary and what would safeguard peace in Venezuela.
The ANC based their move on article 200 of Venezuelas constitution which gives the Supreme Court the unique power to rule over parlamentarians immunity from prosecution.
Guaido, who was chosen as National Assembly president in January 2019, violated a court-ordered travel ban on February 22 when he crossed into Colombia to lead efforts to force humanitarian aid across the border. He later attended a Lima Group meeting in Bogota and travelled to Brazil, Paraguay, Ecuador, and Argentina before returning to Venezuela March 4.
The travel ban against Guaido, as well as an asset freeze, were also reinforced by the ANC Tuesday, both extended until the investigation [against him] is over.
Two criminal investigations being led by the Attorney Generals office are currently open, one relating to his unconstitutional behaviour as a public official, and the other regarding his alleged role in what the Venezuelan government describes as sabotage against the electric grid which has led to rolling blackouts across Venezuela in recent weeks.
The opposition leader has also been barred from holding public office for 15 years by Venezuelas Ombudsman Elvis Amoroso last month. Amoroso pointed towards alleged spending irregularities during Guaidos time as a deputy.

Completely agree. Tired of the United States playing the world police. Venezuela harmed themselves.
Two competing national assemblies?
No wonder there’s chaos in Venezuela.
We could build a wall.
I agree.

#9. Just like in Grenada, a handful of Communist troops isn’t going to do a thing (the Cubans got themselves killed or captured).
And in Panama, the National Guard who resisted were wiped out in less than a day.
Venezuela was the first Latin American country in the 1950’s to overthrow a dictatorship and install a democratic-leading government. It took the reds decades to subvert, propaganda and undermine the govt prior to Chavez in order to install a Marxist dictatorship.
Trump could be the new “Monroe Doctrine” proponent which served us so well for over 100 years.
Yes, let's bring criminal proceedings against OUR opposition leader!
The enemy sits in Washington DC. Never mind about other countries' problems.
+1
More than a handful of troops - several hundred from each country - they are not like the ill-trained Cubans or Panamanians; these are special operators like SEAL teams, Delta Force, SAS etc - AND there countries have nuclear weapons if needed. They will not fold.
This could well escalate into a new “Cuban Crisis” - lived through that, don’t want to live through another because someone hugely underestimates the problem at hand.
KGB/FSB “Vympel”, GRU Spetsnaz, Russian Airborne, Chinese PLA special forces, and Cuban DI and Nicaraguan specops. Probably some North Koreans and Iranians mixed in as well
and Iranians mixed in as well
Don’t forget that

should go too!!
Ping!
Let me guess. He colluded with the US?
Other countries’ problems left festering is why there is an unlimited supply of illegals pounding on our doors. Since some business interests and all Democrats enjoy this cheap labor and power to electorally flip states, that is why we have a “pacifist” movement opposing doing anything meaningful about it.
By citing all the special actors involved in our hemisphere you’re all actually making the case for why something should be done about it, why it is so important to restore the Monroe Doctrine.
