O’Rourke Endorses Abolishing Electoral College
Washington Free Beacon ^ | April 1, 2019 | Haris Alic

Former Texas congressman Beto O'Rourke joined a growing list of 2020 Democrats by endorsing the abolition of the Electoral College on Monday.

O'Rourke, who previously said there was "a lot of wisdom" behind eliminating the Electoral College, endorsed the idea outright while addressing the annual We the People Membership Summit in Washington, D.C.

"Let's abolish the Electoral College," O'Rourke told the audience in response to question about gerrymandering and the popular vote. The event was hosted by organized labor and prominent liberal groups like the Sierra Club, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, and the Center for Popular Democracy Action, a dark money group funded in part by George Soros.

O'Rourke justified his call for eliminating the Electoral College by comparing the institution to slavery.

It’s already happening on a state level, and it will only accelerate. Once enough blue states usurp the intent of the constitution, “Katie bar the door” because we will become a communist dictatorship overnight.

Take a look at the county by county voting map and it’s easy to see the reason for the Electoral College.

Does anyone know the full list of dumbass ideas the new socialist party (aka Dems) are pushing to destroy our Republic?

Reparations, Green New Deal, 70% tax rate, open borders, killing newborn infants, 16 year old voters, free college, pervert sports, bankrupt Medicare, universal basic income, etc.

I am. But I think (don’t recall, been a while since I looked) that this would require a Congressional vote and Constitutional Amendment *AND* ratification by 2/3rds of the state legislature.

Besides, it may be case of “be careful what you wish for. TX already outnumbers NY and IL in terms of electoral Votes and FL is tied with NY at the moment. If the blue states continue bleeding population, it may be TX, FL, MO, AZ and a handful of others deciding the vote. It wouldn’t be a slam dunk. Though CA stands in the way admittedly.

Agreed.

However, I believe states’ independence was pretty much lost as a result of the civil war.

Becoming a democracy would be another key turning point toward the end of the American experiment.

By rights if the EC is eliminated these should go too:

—The delegate system of the political parties/Presidential elections. Currently candidates must win enough delegates to get the nomination. The roll call of states at the convention is just like electors for each state. You mean we don’t have just have a national
popular vote for the nomination?

—The U.S. Senate. Why should Wyoming have the same amount of Senators as California? (Thus the need for the _House_...) Could you imagine the outrage if the House went by the same rule?

Wyoming (or any small state)
2 Representatives
2 Senators

California
2 Representatives
2 Senators

It’s in the Constitution so that mean you just can’t arbitrarily eliminate it.

The Electoral College is required by the US Constitution but I do not expect O”Rourke to know that or realize how hard it will be to get all the states to agree. The electroal college protects the smaller states with fewer epresentatives from the larger states with way more elected representatives.

In my opinion beyond the obvious dangers of a national popular vote there is this, I don’t believe such a method of electing the president and our “Bill of Rights” can coexist. Especially the 1st and 2nd Amendments.

WADDA JERK. He does not know what the Electoral College is or why it is in the US Constitution. He cannot possibly do a good job as a representative if he does not know and understand the US Constitution. Back to school.

The march of socialism through our cultural institutions has been a continuing and growing influence in our culture for nearly a century. Its primary goal is to break down the American culture, community by community.
Unlimited immigration is a primary component of this effort, especially serf level people from third world countries where there is no tradition of freedom. Many of today’s immigrants - 20% of the world’s migrating population - are coming to the US for its social benefits programs. They are not looking to assimilate into American culture. Many are coming as grifters, looking to exploit American wealth.
Another kind of infiltration is institutional control by socialist minded people. These are revolutionaries who have been moving into our cultural institutions - universities, service agencies, churches, public education, media, corporate boardrooms - and influencing policies and procedures that further the interests of globalism and central planning.
The Democrat party and the main stream media have developed an unholy alliance aimed at disinforming the citizenry about the truth and manufacturing the means to break down culture by creating conflict, distrust, and chaos. The political establishment steps into this prepared breach with central planning that takes away local control of local issues. Hence Democrat opposition to the electoral college as a device that protects the interests of local communities.

The founders had a lot of wisdom setting up the electoral college.

They also had a lot of wisdom excluding the children of foreign nationals from being President.

We all saw how badly ignoring that part worked.

We are being played big-time here, as usual.

While Beto and the other young progressives get us all worked up about doing away with the Electoral College which is highly unlikely, a single Federal judge has eliminated the citizenship question from the next census. If that is allowed to stand then any state with a large population of illegal immigrants will get more Congressional representation and more Electoral votes. As it currently stands the Electoral votes that California has derived from its illegals completely disenfranchise smaller states.

But look -— a squirrel!

The only reason that Dummycrats like O'Rourke want to abolish the Electoral College is because the Electoral College system makes it tougher for them to win presidential elections. With a national popular vote to determine the outcome of presidential elections, all they need to do is to cheat like crazy in states and localities where they control the election apparatus, where they know there will be no pushback against their slimy practices. This is exactly what happened in 2016, especially in California, where you had millions of "votes" come in for Clinton for several days after the polls closed, allowing the 'Rats to claim a "massive popular vote victory."

We must be cognizant of the fact that this 'Rat election cheating has a number of different facets. It's more than just ineligible individuals appearing at the polls and casting ballots, a practice enhanced by "same-day registration." It includes multiple votes cast by individuals in multiple districts and even multiple states; "harvesting" of mail ballots; creation of phony ballots filled in by unscrupulous party operatives in the name of others or fictitious characters or dead people (as was seen in Broward and Palm Beach counties in Florida last year); and vote COUNTING fraud. The effects of all of these and more sleazy practices are magnified and encouraged when the national popular vote is the only determinant of the election outcome.
