COLUMBUS, OhioA proposed Ohio constitutional amendment to award the states presidential electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote has cleared an initial hurdle toward making the statewide ballot this November.
A summary of the proposed amendment was certified by Attorney General Dave Yost on Monday as a fair and truthful statement of the proposed law, though Yost didnt weigh in on whether he supported or opposed the measure.

Im wondering how this might help Trump, give him an even bigger landslide in 2020.
Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
It won’t.
Dangerous road to take, imo
If they thought that it would help President Trump they would not be doing it.
"SECTION 4. The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence."
A Republican form of government is one in which the people elect representatives to make decisions for them, not other popular masses.
This seems to preclude a state from doing an end run around the Electoral College by subjecting its citizens to the tyranny of the majority vote of some other states. It is not that states now living citizens votes that make the choice but the votes of some dead citizens who passed this states constitutional amendment to cede their descendants votes to the electors in other states! Highly unconstitutional!
Kon-sty-two-shun?
What’s that?
Sounds racist to me.
Whatever happened to Ohio? It used to be a very Repub state.
It may not work out as well as the RATs think. In states like NY and CA Republicans are discouraged and do not really turn out. They might suddenly decide that it is worthwhile voting after all...
You answered your own question. They will probably vote Republican, but this way they can swing the electoral votes to the Dems.
It’s unconstitutional.
So the morons in Ohio want California and NY to decide for them? OMG
How can this evn pass muster as it completely denies thier individual’s vote any validity in regards to who will lead the country?
Hillary and her pals are used to cheating to get their way and giving the Electoral College the "heave ho" would make them all real happy.
They think it is the only obstacle in their way.
They forget that this nation belongs to God and not their favorite rude boy Satan.
Can Ohio or any other state do this legally>
I don’t think this passes the vote.
sO, LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT. A guy like Beto O’Rourke, could win NY, CA, IL and a few other states...and win the popular vote...get 2% of the vote in Ohio, and he gets Ohio’s electoral votes.
Yeah, real smart...Then why campaign in Ohio?
This is nothing more than an end run around the Electoral College.
Let’s see, right before the GOP’s eyes this is happening. Thank God we have a guy in the office, instead of a Bush or Romney who would, (like open migration ala Ted Kennedy)
1. Lower voting age to 16
2. INcrease the number of SCOTUS
3. Do away with the electoral college
4. Let Illegal’s vote (this one really baffles me)
5. etc
It isnt. See the Interstste Compacts Clause, US Constitution. They arent even following a procedure that would allow for it to become legal
Kasich is out of office because of term limits. But this is a play to bypass any veto by the Governor since it is a vote on a state constitution amendment. These things have been coming up a lot. Aside from the stupidity of this proposed amendment, people simply don’t appreciate how serious a deal it is to mess around with a constitution. You don’t want to be mucking around with it.
Article 1 Section 10 specifically states that no state shall enter into a compact without the consent of Congress. This is blatantly unconstitutional.
