I concur to an extent. However, my impression was that he unwittingly pinned a great deal of responsibility on Obama by his comments, which in my opinion is every bit as damning as actually ratting him out.

He knows NOTHING will ever happen to Obama so blaming him is way to get off the hook Unfortunately I believe you're right. He's not only a member of two protected classes (ex-prez and black); he's the first black Prez. No way is he going to prison even though he genuinely deserves it. That's just not how they want this history to be written and frankly; I think it would start the race war the the dems have been fanning for some time now.
