Today (2/14/19) U.S. Senators Kamala D. Harris (D-CA) and Cory Booker (D-NJ) asked for unanimous consent on the Senate floor to pass the bipartisan Justice for Victims of Lynching Act, legislation that would criminalize lynching for the first time in American history. The motion was passed, marking a historic step towards the first federal anti-lynching law...

On 12/21/18, the Justice for Victims of Lynching Act passed the Senate by unanimous consent, marking the first time in American history that federal anti-lynching legislation had been passed by the Senate.

“Lynchings were acts of violence—they were horrendous acts of violence, and they were motivated by racism,” said Harris. “With this bill, we finally have a chance to speak the truth about our past and make clear that these hateful acts should never happen again. We can finally offer some long overdue justice and recognition to the victims of lynching and their families.”

“Lynching is not a relic of a painful past—it is a present and pernicious evil that we still have yet to confront,” said Booker. “Today’s Senate passage of the Justice For Victims of Lynching Act is a historic step towards acknowledging a long and painful history and codifying into law our commitment to confronting bias-motivated acts of terror in all of its forms. . .

“Today the Senate sent a strong signal that this nation will not stand for the hate and violence spread by those with evil in their hearts,” said Scott. . .

According to data from the Equal Justice Initiative, lynching was used as an instrument of terror and intimidation 4,084 times during the late 19th and 20th centuries. From 1882 to 1986, Congress failed to pass anti-lynching legislation 200 times. The [legislation] is supported by the NAACP, the Anti-Defamation League, and the Equal Justice Initiative

We should be bringing back public hangings; especially those who work for the people then commit crimes against the people who have given them their trust.

It’s all about closure you see. Like when obama and Holder conspired to run guns into Mexico then blame law abiding gun owner so they could pass anti-gun laws. I see that as a public hanging offense you see. That was just one of the many high crimes and misdemeanors committed by the oblamo Administration though. Unfortunately we can only hang a person one time. He could be left hanging for weeks; even months though.

Wait until she finds out that many white cattle rustlers, horse thieves and rapists were lynched, also. Some figures I’ve read claimed that up to one-third of all U.S. lynchings were of white people.

Yes, it’s pandering legislation, but there is also the sinister underside of their anticipating and laying the groundwork for the time(s) when they can use this add on legislation to claim “federal law-breaking lynching,” and with some quick organizing hire people to be transported to the cameras for a riot, like the “Black Lives Matter “ or Ferguson, or “Don’t shoot,” template of riot for the cameras and the incitement of Black neighborhoods.

The text of the bill S3178 can be read at congress.gov.

This isn’t about concern for victims. It’s a setup. They WANT Trump to veto it, in order to continue pushing the “Trump is a racist” crap.
The wording would further enable leftist lynch mobs to go after opponents on spurious accusations of loosely defined “lynching” and “hate crimes” while further eroding due process.
Nobody who respects the Constitution would pass this left-agenda driven nonsense. The Senators who already did, either didnt read it, or were intimidated by fear of being called racist.
They want Trump to veto it!

True. Hanging was standard punishment for anyone accused of a crime, and due process was often overruled by bloodthirsty lynch mobs, regardless of the race of the accused.

In fact, the largest lynching in American history was in New Orleans IIRC in 1891. The victims were 11 Italians.

The movie Vendetta—which of course was given a Hollywood slant but was really interesting anyway- was based on the Richard Gambino book of the same name.

This stupid california c#nt wouldn’t know what constitutes a lynching if I hanged her with her own rope.
RACIST? How many white men have been lynched in the past, happened all the time.
It was not just limited to negros.

Most folks connect LYNCHING with the KU KLUX KLAN, last time I checked 99.9% of those bastards were DEMOCRATS.
Including their honored SENATOR BYRD!

Leave them like the Brits did in the 17th and 18th centuries, they hang on the gibbet until the crows have eaten their fill and the rest rots away.

Looking back into history is much easier for the Left than an honest look at today’s reality with regards to crime and race.

Though only 12 percent of the population, Blacks today commit most of homicides in the USA and the overwhelming majority of interracial crime. Whites face far more violence at the hands of blacks than the other way around.

Oh, my. His nicknames...

I knew of one who was in serious labor pains and had no idea who the baby daddy was. Named the kid Serious Curious.

Then there was the mama who demanded service and named her kid Service.

Another kicked his mama’s tummy so much he was named Bronco Billy. Yep, right there on the BC.

Aside from all the BS, and murder already a crime I find 4000 lynchings hard to believe. Would love to see how they came to that figure.
