Dick’s Sporting Goods took a loss of an estimated $150 million in sales last year after the company heavily restricted firearm purchases and began advocating for gun control.
The company made various policy changes after a school shooting in Parkland, Florida, left 17 dead. It announced it would no longer sell modern sporting rifles or high-capacity magazines and increased the purchase age for all firearms to 21.
Dick’s also hired anti-gun lobbyists to promote gun restriction legislation, despite saying it still supports the Second Amendment.
“The system does not work,” said Edward Stack, Dick’s CEO. “It’s important that when you know there’s something that’s not working, and it’s to the detriment of the public, you have to stand up.”

It doesn’t work like that. Guy goes in for a rifle, he might buy a jacket, boots, fishing pole, camping equipment. Then in off season he buys weights, running shoes etc.
Only now, he don’t go there for his rifle. He thinks Dicks dislikes him. He never buys all that other stuff. It’s like that.

DKS views shooters and hunters as one-dimensional people. While not a soccer mom, I was a lacrosse dad a basketball dad and a soccer dad (Mrs. NY is not athletically inclined) I also play golf.
So, besides losing my hunting and shooting business, DKS has lost my golf and athletic wear business.
I get that - I wouldn’t shop at a Dick’s either - it’s just that $150,000,000 million in sales with $7,300,000,000 last year, it is only down 2%. I have know idea what their profit margin is - but say 20%? So profits are down 0.4%???
Or - they may have jacked up their other prices to cover it?
In finding the information on Dicks it had the CEO talking and it was easier to hear than read. Something like “Thoughts and prayers really don’t do anything. So we decided to do something.”
So silly - as though them taking some of their weapons off the shelf is really going to accomplish anything with regards to folks going out and committing a crime.
All sporting is psych connected and most pencil necks just don’t envision that being possible. They are educated to compartmentalize things and they are not all intertwined.

Problem is close to what you have written. There are more facts to be discovered about mental illness and successful treatment and reversal is still a ways off. But to endanger society cuz we’re too lazy or busy or cheap or ignorant or unconcerned to solve the moral,legal,theological,medical, and philosophical problems associated is not a good strategy. We are reaping the effects of our (in)actions. Justified or not.
