Latest Trump H-2B Increase Again Betrays American Workers
Center for Immigration Studies ^ | 29 March 2019 | Preston Huennekens

Today's decision increases the H-2B cap by "only" 30,000, rather than the full 67,000 Congress authorized, but this surge nonetheless increases the cap to 96,000. Not even under President Obama did H-2B visas rise to such high levels....President Trump continues to increase the number of H-2B guestworkers every time he has the opportunity. This is entirely his own administration's fault. He could, at any time, direct Secretary Nielsen to not increase the cap.

That’s what we need, more Asian techs. Damn it!

If this is true, it’s antithetic to everything he’s run on.

Why give in on only this issue when he hasn’t on others?!

There’s no dearth of good tech workers here.

There’s an abundance of companies, however, who don’t watn to pay good salaries.

That last line is what’s causing this. Businesses don’t want to pay a reasoned wage for decent work.

Look, I’m not talking about entry level jobs that were never supposed to support families. I’m talking about regular jobs for adults that should pay more than minimum wage or illegal alien wages.

I don’t like the H-1 or H-2 entries.

We’ve still got plenty of workers here. The idea we’ve hired all the capable people is just a fantasy.

Spain used to have the biggest navy.

Gold poured in and, instead of developing themselves, simply BOUGHT anything they needed.

Anyone hear much recently about the Spanish navy..?

Indeed, “Castles in Spain” is now a derisive epxression referring to anything UNREALISTIC.

Sounds like we’re becoming another Spain, I’d say.

These aren’t Asian tech workers, they are the temporary workers that stuff Trump’s clubs and pick the grapes in the Trump family vineyard during peak season.

And yes, if they paid enough they’d have plenty of Americans to do the work. Even if college kids who could work their studies around the schedule. (Much of it is summer or fall labor.)

Bad management, agreed—but because policies like this make it cheaper to go with the cheap temporary import. And if others in your industry are going with that option it is hard not to follow suit if you want to stay in business.

This is all bought off bad policy that employers have lobbied and bribed our pols to give them.

Don’t hear much these days from those FReepers who defend big businesses cutting their costs to the bone, by hiring “cheaper labor” (read foreign workers) in order to make more profit, do we?

This, bumpstocks, and red flag.

I am very close to becoming an opponent of Trump.

As I read it, these Visas only fill jobs Americans could have but want more money for. This is the Chamber of Commerce influence.

That said, job descriptions on Indeed and the like are getting more and more ridiculous with the requirements. Everyone has their own software and you must have 3 years experience in that software.

Job titles don’t mean a damned thing because they’re all making up their own definitions.

And then you have the recruiters who I suspect are matching up the Visa holders with job openings.

Why aren’t companies hiring perfectly great American people and giving them a few weeks to learn whatever is new?

Anyway .... rant over. Thanks for being here.

>>>I don’t think what Trump is doing makes much sense here. There are certainly American workers who would take these jobs for some period of time

The Trump Organization doesn’t agree with you. They’ve been using H2Bs at their resorts for years.

I’m old enough to remember when US citizen high school students or recent graduates would spend a summer working at east coast beach resorts.

Now it’s mostly irish or east europeans - some on legitimate work visas (h2b?) some just working here illegally (on tourist visas but violating the work terms.)

You sound like me from 2015 until earlier today.

Here’s a clue. What’s happened with “older” white men, _real_ nationalists, is that they are opting out commpletely and full of rage. What good will it do? Probably none, but at some point we start to smell bullshit and just withdraw further, perhaps to die.

I agree - Trump is the only Republican candidate who can win a national election.

On the other hand....

If Conservatives do not hold Trump’s feet to the political fire, who will?

H2B is for hotel maids, basically.

H1B is for techs and is a far more concerning program, given that they’ve completely nuked the wage scale in what is arguably our single most important industry today, and flooded it with foreigners who have no loyalty to the USA.
