GOP lawmakers fight Dems' push to add extra Supreme Court seats

Republican lawmakers announced Tuesday that they would be introducing a constitutional amendment this week that would stop the recent push by some Democrats to increase the number of justices on the Supreme Court.

Rep. Mark Green, R-Tenn., slammed calls by 2020 Democratic hopefuls to increase the number of sitting judges as “dangerous” and a threat to the balance of power among the three branches of government.

“Schemes to pack the court are dangerous to the Founders' vision of an independent judiciary that serves as a check on both the Executive and Legislative branches of government,” he wrote on Twitter.

Green said he intends to file a constitutional amendment Thursday that would limit the number of justices to 9 - the number it has been since 1869.

I a rhetorical sense it’s fine to fight fire with fire. But where does it end?

Trump packs the court, and then the next commie adds enough to flip it his way, and then the next adds more to flip it back. Where does it end?

Better to make the point that elections have consequences and the left needs to fight their battles at the ballot box, not in the courts.

Republican lawmakers announced Tuesday that they would be introducing a constitutional amendment

Should have done this and killed all of the leftist programs, bureaus, and organizations when they had the fricking majority. Typical gutless, reactionary Republicans.

Doubt that such a measure would pass either the House or Senate with required 2/3rds majority. I doubt it would even pass in the House with a simple majority. Then there are the states required to ratify it—13 states can block an amendment. Right now there are 18 states where both houses are controlled by Democrats, more than enough to block any such amendment.

All the Dems need to pack the court is to gain control of the Senate and the Presidency and keep control of the House. Changing the law only requires simple majorities in both houses and the President’s signature. You can be sure that Senate rules on the 60-vote filibuster would be changed to get this to happen.

We need to keep this from happening.

Only if the extra judges get to be initially confirmed by Trump.

Adding 6 young judges would make it 11-4.

No they shouldn’t fight it at all. They ought to add them right now, while Trump can appoint them all.

Some Dhimmicraps are talking up a mandatory retirement age for justices, which is not constitutional. My wife and I noted that it hurts them. Ginsburg and Breyer are in their 80s and would have to retire. Depending on where you set the age, it might cost us Justice Thomas, but that’s still two of theirs and no more than one of ours. And Trump is still president.

Bring it on. We’ll take two more seats. Who do you want?

The next time there is a democrat president and a democrat controlled congress the democrats will enact a court packing scheme. Then the next time there is a Republican president and a Republican controlled congress the Republicans will retaliate with their own court packing scheme. Eventually there will be more Supreme Court Justices than there are congresscritters.

7 would be best.

Going back to the original six would be even better. It would take a 2/3 majority to decide anything.

Agreed. But let's keep it simple. Which two RATS want to resign?

“.......am I forgetting something?”

More than likely, but you’ve covered the biggies. And there is only one man standing in front of all of them (including the feckless RINOs) doing all he can humanly do, to stop all of it, and that man is DJT! Some days, I just marvel at why he just doesn’t take to a microphone and say F*CK ALL OF YOU, I’M DONE! And walk away!

Why didn’t the Dems do this when they ran everything under Obama ? Didn’t think of it ?
No,he spent a full year lying to his voters and bribing democrats in order to shove O-Care down the nations’ throats.

The big push is on........open borders, complete media takeover, sixteen year olds voting, doing away with the electoral college, added seats to the Supreme Court, infanticide, support of Muslim terrorists in the house, expanded sanctuary cities........am I forgetting something?

You are correct. They are desperate to hang onto power, no matter what the cost. To Progressives, power is everything.

One of the prime Progressive assumptions about the nature of the universe is there is no god, or at minimum, government is god on earth, so they can do anything, justify anything, to get and hold onto political power.

I think it would be an excellent idea to increase the Supreme Court by adding six more people.

In fact, it is such a good idea that Trump should submit more candidates to the Senate immediately. Six additional conservative justices would be great.

But somehow I doubt the Democrats would go for that...

I JUST made a comment about that on the thread where the SC ruled in favor of ICE.

The dems running for Pres want more but only if they win!

how convenient and it wont be lost on Trump.

Or the majority of the country who will see it as the dictatorial move that it is.

I truly believe 55 percent of the country is still sane.

That’s all we need.
