The suicide of Alan Krueger, a former Obama and Clinton adviser who killed himself this weekend, has shocked the worlds of politics and business where he was universally revered. Krueger, 58, had a new book coming out in June and was still a member of faculty at Princeton University in New Jersey. He lived at home with his wife Lisa, with whom he has two children, Benjamin, 28, and Sydney, 26. He is survived by them, his elderly parents and siblings. The family confirmed that he killed himself in a statement that was released by Princeton on Monday but no further details surrounding his death have emerged. Krueger, who served as a top adviser to both Obama and Clinton, recently completed his sixth book, Rockonomics. The book, which will be released in June, 'uses the music industry, from superstar artists to music executives, from managers to promoters, as a way in to explain key principles of economics, and the forces shaping our economic lives.' He was an avid tweeter who used social media almost daily until the end of January when he suddenly stopped. Currency, his publisher, has not commented on his death.
Krueger was best known for his groundbreaking research into minimum wage and the effect it had on labor. He determined that a higher minimum wage did not slow down hiring as conservatives have long argued. After serving as a Labor Department economist under President Bill Clinton, Krueger worked for President Barack Obama as a top Treasury official and then as chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers from 2011 to 2013. In a statement, Obama credited Krueger with helping revive the U.S. economy after the devastating 2008 financial crisis....

A friend of mine killed himself last year. And yes, we were all stunned. I coached football with him for years and spoke weekly. Our families had many dinners together. He and his wife and kids did everything together. In fact, they were leaving for a family trip to Florida the day before. Nothing appeared unusual. Out of courtesy, I have not asked his wife what was in the note he left and she’s hasn’t offered a “why”. As far as an autopsy, there was none. A hunting rifle in the roof of the mouth makes the cause of death pretty obvious.
The ones close to slick willy get sexually assaulted.
It can be depressing when a useful idiot discovers that he is no longer useful, only an idiot.
This is interesting news.
His lauded status was about to be grunged, and so he checked himself out of the room.
Must have been writers block.
Gee. Another Clinton acquaintence pushing up daisies. I’m shocked. (Is anyone maintaining “The Clinton Body Count” list any more?)
And added to your caption: “It was wiped you say? Like with a cloth? “
Lock her up.
Maybe his conscience got after him for causing so many peop[e to [ose their obs o suffer from restricted hours.
Arkancide # 342 and counting.
IF you knew what he knew, you’d commit “arkancide” too....
“He determined that a higher minimum wage did not slow down hiring”
Cool! Let’s have a $1,000,000 per Hour Minimum Wage!
Imagine trying to go through life with the stench of the Tune and Odumbo clinging to you. It’s just too much for some.
That green scarf for St Patty’s Day looks like a Handi-Wipe.
He found himself on the wrong side of history, and, had nowhere else to go.
Was he found hanging from a red scarf on a doorknob?
Just popped up; 342 meaning a heck of a lot. It may actually be over 1,000 Arkancide victims for whom justice will be forever denied.
Suicide is epidemic among Clinton associates.
No worries.
Folks are prone to exaggerated prose.
while he did show that raising the minimum wage didn’t lead to decreased hiring of entry-levels - in the fast food industry - other research has shown that raising the minimum wage did indeed reduce quits, but put pressure on employers to pay more to those who would have stuck around anyway. And, the raises for existing employees weren’t as large as they would have been at a lower minimum wage.
Any championing of minimum wage increases should be tempered with the realization that increasing entry level wages directly affects existing employees’ eligibility for raises as well as the average amounts of those raises. Robbing Peter to pay Paul, so to speak.
His Family are left to put themselves together and carry on, regardless of his politics and bad policies. May they find their way of harmony and beauty and again, walk it.
