Should transgender people be sterilised before they are recognised? Earlier this year Japan’s Supreme Court decided that the answer is yes. Takakito Usui, a transgender man (ie, someone who was born female but identifies as male), had sued over a requirement that, to be officially designated a man, he has to have his ovaries and uterus removed (as well as have surgery to make his genitals look male, be over 20, single, have no minor children and have been diagnosed as suffering from “gender-identity disorder”). He argued that all this violated his right to self-determination and was therefore unconstitutional. The court disagreed.

Look, I know this place runs on snarky commentary (Lord knows, I'm guilty of it), but do you really want governments deciding if people get sterilized and lobotomized?? That's probably a slippery slope you don't want to go down.

A lot of the problem with “you can pee with me” and the transgender access to sex segregated spaces is the fact that 3/4 of these transgenders are biological men, and 2/3+ keep the plumbing.
This means more than half of the “transgenders” are biological men with the male anatomy saying I identify as a woman, so let me into the bathroom, the shower, the dorm, the women’s prison.
If they all had the plumbing changed, there wouldn’t be an argument about “gender identity” beyond the adults trying to transition and the push to include kids.

Yes - and I think that is what Japan is trying to get at. Not so much that they want them sterilized, but to be recognized as the other sex they have to have all the bits and pieces removed/changed. (Not that it will make them the other sex mind you.)
I think they are trying to avoid the circumstances where some guy can put on a dress, say he’s a woman, and then go into the womens locker room and perhaps even rape a woman.
