Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), a self-declared proponent of democratic socialism, took pride Tuesday in questioning Wells Fargo CEO Timothy Sloan about the banks role in financing private projects that she considers objectionable, such as oil pipelines and prisons.
She also demanded to know why the bank should not be held financially liable for the impacts of oil spills and even the effects of climate change.
...
One way to interpret these exchanges is to understand them as red meat for the Resistance. The far-left relishes confrontations with bank executives.
For example, a hard-core group stalks JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon everywhere he goes, scaling Park Avenue flagpoles, blocking Seattle traffic with tepees, bursting into conferences, and blasting audio of crying children outside his apartment, Bloomberg notes.
Another way to look at Ocasio-Cortezs line of questioning is to conclude she knows absolutely nothing about economics, despite boasting a degree in it.
It makes as much sense to punish Wells Fargo for a pipeline leak as it does to punish the Security Service Federal Credit Union, the countrys biggest automotive lender, for fender-benders. If we treated banks that way, all lending would stop, and Americans would be instantly poor.
She also knows nothing about climate change a fact that was made clear last month when she released the Green New Deal, amidst predictions that the world would end within twelve years.
Even assuming, for arguments sake, that climate change is happening and humans are causing it, it is impossible to quantify the costs (or benefits!) with any certainty, much less assign those costs to the banks that lend to energy projects.
Ocasio-Cortez believes Wells Fargo can be held responsible for all of societys ills because she believes that capitalism itself is inherently destructive.

Good, short article. Reveals a bit of the current progressive mind set (such as it is).
Thanks for posting.
AOC’s questioning of Mr. Sloan didn’t go so well. You could tell the age/maturity difference right from the start. He was completely unfazed and that made her frustrated, and it just went downhill.
The bartender tried to say that banks are responsible for what other people do with their money. In a socialist government, you can make those idiotic assertions and use them to hang people.
Everyone should go and review the brief dialog between Sloan and AOC. It was like a 3rd grade kid trying ‘dump’ on the teacher. She was way out of league. I think Sloan tried to be respectful, but I would question her knowledge base of economics.
Pretty AMAZING her degree from Boston University was in none other than economics!!! This just goes to show you these degrees are WORTHLESS!!
Right-When you criminalize ‘individuality’ you absolve people of all personal responsibility.
This way, the population is reduced to the status of fat, lazy cattle and ‘politicians’ decide everything FOR THEM!
I would hope she stores her money in a sock, if its in the bank she would ultimately be responsible for the things she opposed.
Profit is exploitation only in a mystic viewpoint of emotionalists. - MacKay
It is also what the French revolution, Soviet show trials, Maoist reeducation camps and National Socialist show trials looked like.
I majored in economics and graduated in 1971. The degree is not worthless. AOC could have graduated with a double major in math and physics and she would still ask stupid questions and make stupid proposals. She is a hard core left wing socialist-what she majored in would have made no difference.
Certainly not. I had an excellent economics professor in my MBA program. It's a very serviceable discipline.
Yep, I saw that. It irks me to have idiots like AOC sitting up high and grilling business people in a public forum as if they were guilty of some crime.
Maybe someday she'll be better than Hank Johnson.
Exactly!
Its just that she learned how to manage a socialist/communist economy.
Question from AOC to Wells Fargo: How many kids fit inside a cage from Wells Fargo and at what interest rate do you charge?
Either way, she's a dingbat. There's no secret about why this Boston U. graduate was working as a bartender at the age of 28.
I don't know if it's a hard-and-fast rule, but if someone majors in two subjects, they would have to have graduated with a dual major in order to be able to say they have a degree in each.
Like AOC, I majored in two subjects, but like her, only in a major/minor sense - not a dual major. I got a BA in music with a minor in philosophy, but I never say I have a "degree in philosophy". My friend, on the other hand, got a dual major, in Computer Science and Physics. I believe he can say he has a degree in either subject.
If AOC majored in international relations with a minor in economics, I think it's incorrect to say she got a degree in econ.
I majored in economics and graduated in 1971.
One could argue that therein lies the difference. Since that time the agenda of the professoriate not have have changed, but the openness of the indoctrination has.
When the government accepts responsibility for the actions of criminals they let out of jail early or illegals they stay in the country forever, maybe I’ll listen to AOCs half baked ideas on how banks are responsible for the bad luck of people who borrow. Actually, it would still make no sense but at least the government would be taking responsibility for things they really did enable, for once.
