FAA will issue notice that Boeing 737 MAX planes are still airworthy: Source

The Boeing 737 MAX, the type of plane involved in a deadly crash in Ethiopia over the weekend, is still airworthy and the Federal Aviation Administration plans to issue a notice to the international aviation community later Monday, a person familiar with the matter said.

"The FAA continuously assesses and oversees the safety performance of U.S. commercial aircraft," the FAA said in a statement. "If we identify an issue that affects safety, the FAA will take immediate and appropriate action."

Aviation officials in China and Indonesia ordered domestic airlines to ground their fleets of the popular Boeing single-aisle planes after the deadly crash of one operated by Ethiopian Airlines on Sunday. The 149 passengers and eight crew members on board were killed when the plane crashed shortly after takeoff.

The incident was the second deadly crash of the new Boeing planes in less than five months. A Lion Air Boeing 737 MAX 8 plunged into the Java Sea shortly after taking off from Jakarta in October, killing all 189 people on board.

The training you are describing could be done in a part task trainer or a Level 6 non motion device. You are right, there is no excuse not to get pilots from all the airlines into a short course, two or three days, to accomplish this training.

Not gonna worry about a US airline with Navy and Air Force trained pilots up front like Sully.

What about an Arizona pilot like McCain (Peace be upon him) or McSally?

What has been part of a multinational Force trying to keep jihadis from taking over neighboring countries for a long time. I think Boeing should issue a maintenance notice to Airlines to avoid flying out of third world country airports and for the time being not permit any improvised or manufactured incendiary devices to be checked in the luggage hold. According to Witnesses the plane was dropping clothes and luggage and Catch Fire and smoke following its tail. Not the normal software problem.

"would you count “smoking” as evidence to the contrary?"

The second rule of crash investigations is that "eye-witnesses" are unreliable.

It's "airworthy" but not "safe" at the moment.
Ummm ...

The plane CPU may be falsely diagnosing a "stall" condition and so automatically points the plane's nose down to gain air speed.

The pilots say WTF? and try to bring the nose up.

Radar shows the plane going up and down enough to register on radar?

A witness said at the end the plane went nose down straight into the ground. After the dive/pull up gyrations their last minutes must have been horrifying.

Note to programmers: Maybe add a screen with a choice of functions to cut off from CPU control including a BIG Button one for "Gimmee manual flaps, rudder, engines, hydraulics, stick and pedals command please. Now!"

Hope they figure this one out ASAP - brand new planes and I think it was my favorite SW Air saying no refunds if you decline to take that plane.

Would you like my button/screen as an option?

All controls please?

That’s not really how the systems are designed. We can turn off all the automated systems as it is. There’s different levels of automation depending on what we want to achieve.

the first rule of crash investigations is that "eye-witnesses" are about a trillion times more reliable than internet message forums that are operating on the basis of almost zero knowledge.

After Lion Air, New York Times published cockpit photos that seem to show the crucial stick-pusher disarm switches hidden beneath an unmarked and undocumented plastic cover. If Herb Kelleher (Southwest co-founder) were alive, he’d personally yank those covers off, stomp them into pieces and then sue Boeing (the “Lazy B Ranch”) for enough $$ to get all their tech writers fired.

Thank you.

I am thinking along the same lines.

Third world countries with beautiful cities and streets and buildings appear advanced, but the key missing in EVERYBODY IS what the USA did ...

WE STARTED FROM SCRATCH .... as if everyone on our little piece of real estate was lined up and shot and a new idea was enacted as a politic and a mind set.

And as long as that mind set, The American Way, was taught, lived and perpetuated ... We were the BMOC.

The "Yearning To Live Free" was not an open door for any and everyone without restrictions, rules and regulations.

IF you WANTED to assimulate, we'd have you.

Somewhere around the sixties (as best as I can figure but there may be wiser historians here) the "inclusion" factor was introduced and THAT is how we were taken over.

Like Kruschev banging his shoe on the table .. "We Will Bury You"

Everyone thought that was some kind of conventional war ... but Kruschev really DID understand the power of incrementalism and the power of a public school SYSTEM.

Sorry for the rant but, third world countries just cannot adopt a mind set and attitude right out of 7th century thinking and living.

Even the USA had to go through a few hundred years of experimentation with personal liberty and freedon to get it right enough to pick up arms and SLAY the enemy.

Here kid, here's a 737 Max8, don't shoot cher'eye out.
