Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) suggested during a talk on Saturday that America is "garbage" and that former President Ronald Reagan presented a "racist" vision of the country that "pitted" white working class people against minorities in order "to screw over all working-class Americans."
Ocasio-Cortez made the remarks while speaking at the left-leaning South by Southwest Conference & Festivals in Austin, Texas.
"One perfect example, I think a perfect example of how special interests and the powerful have pitted white working-class Americans against brown and black working-class Americans in order to just screw over all working-class Americans, is Reaganism in the '80s when he started talking about welfare queens," Ocaiso-Cortez said. "So you think about this image of welfare queens and what he was really trying to talk about was ... this like really resentful vision of essentially black women who were doing nothing that were 'sucks' on our country."
"And it's this whole tragedy of the commons type of thinking where it's like because these one, this one specific group of people, that you are already kind of subconsciously primed to resent, you give them a different reason that's not explicit racism but still rooted in a racist caricature," Ocasio-Cortez continued. "It gives people a logical reason, a 'logical' reason to say, 'oh yeah, no, toss out the whole social safety net.'"

I’m hesitant to join the “She’s good for our side” chorus. She may look dumb as a box of rock Star to older co servatives, but she resonates with the young radical kook base. She represents what is going to replace the ancient Dem leaders who are going g to kick off in droves the next few years. She and her ilk are the new leaders; there are zero moderate Dem voices coming up in the ranks.
AOC needs to quickly get the word to the undocumented Democrats in the caravans about America’s State of garbage so that they can turn around and save themselves some trouble with USA. /sarc

Tje left hated Reagan and mocked his trickle down economics, but the dems were wrong and Reagan was right.
He pulled us out of a treeible economic time. Ecinomically speaking, those were the best years of my life. For the first time, we bought a home and paid it off in just 2 years. We owned new vehicles. We took vacations, had a nice savings account, and were about to but a second home when tje plant my husband worked for decided to move to Mexico. Thousands were laid off. We never recovered, but at least we didn’t go hog wild into debt.
That American Dream tasted good, so occasional cortex can take her buck-toothed mouth and spew her garbage somewhere else.
The reality was nothing short od a miracle after the lengthy recession we’d been in.
Cortez proves the days of licking Twetty Bird acid tabs is still in style.
More minorities moved from the fifth economic quintile and into the first (bottom 20% to top 20%) under Boss Ray-Gun than under any other American president.
There are welfare queens and kings who don’t have to work, and who get the equivalent of $40,000 a year in money and benefits, and are still called “poor.” While many people who I know earn less than $40,000, pay 40% of it in taxes, and are still called “non-poor.”

Welfare Queen was a term originated by the Chicago Tribune in 1976 to describe Linda Taylor who was accused (and convicted) of using nearly 100 names, 30 addresses, and 15 phone numbers to rake in $150,000.00 per year in fraudulent welfare claims.
Candidate Reagan seized on the story to illustrate the incompetence of the welfare system. One of his campaign planks was to root out fraud and waste in government transfer payments. His concern was focused on staunching the outflow, and never related to race.
Oddly, Taylor had the ability to mimic nearly any racial or age group. She presented as white, black, asian, and hispanic at various times. She had a wildly dramatic fashion sense. It would appear that Rep. Frederica Wilson has modeled her aspect after Taylor.
Anywho, it remains that ‘Madam Speaker’ Ocasio-Cortez is; per usual, full of crap.
With a mouth like that, she could suck a baseball through a garden hose!

Last Fri eve the squad arrive at La Salle hotel for the Elmhurst game, mine host took one look into the bus & said 'not' to gentlemen ob' color. Not to their face, but Duth followed Mac into the lobby & cottoned on, so to speak. PDQ Mac was read to sleep the whole team in the bus, but Dutch whispers that Dixon is not far away. 'I'll take the two of them home...no problem.' So Mac slips him the cab fare, and his parents welcome them like Amos 'n Andy. Dutch v. pleased with himself -- thinks naygurs dumb enough to believe it was just a case of 'no room at the inn.'
This was 1931. I can't speak to the author's racial bias, but you've got to respect a young man (Reagan) who would bring two gentlemen of color who had just been refused lodging at a hotel, into his family home to sleep for the night, in those times.
One of the men involved -- Burghardt -- confirmed the story and added "I just don't think he was conscious of race at all."
That's plenty good for me!
Ahh, but you see, in today's world, if you aren't conscious of race, that makes you racist, because you don't appreciate the fact the black people endured 400 years of slavery. Being "colorblind" is now considered "racist".
