President Trump on Monday will propose major spending cuts across a range of domestic government programs while seeking a large increase for the Pentagon, a budget plan thats already encountering withering opposition from Democrats who control the House, as well as some Republicans.
The budget has little chance of becoming law because of bipartisan resistance to many of its elements, but it sets forth the White Houses vision ahead of what is expected to be a fierce battle over government spending later this year.
. . . . .
The proposal is Trumps first comprehensive budget blueprint since Democrats took control of the House in January. Unlike in the past two years, White House officials say they plan to forcefully fight for the proposed cuts, hoping to draw a sharp contrast with Democrats on Capitol Hill.
And the White House plans to expand its effort to cut anti-poverty programs. It will propose strict new work requirements for able-bodied Americans across a range of welfare programs, including health care, housing and nutrition assistance.
Many Republicans have said these programs are bloated with waste and discourage people from returning to work. But Democrats have fiercely opposed such requirements in the past, saying they penalize the poor and strip benefits from those in need.
. . . .
Time and again, Congress has ignored presidential cost-saving recommendations and plowed ahead with irresponsible budgets that increase both spending and the size of government. This needs to stop, acting White House budget director Russell T. Vought wrote in a recent opinion piece. It is time for Congress to join the president in his commitment to cutting spending.

And this is reported like its a bad thing?
Its only a bad thing when Trump does it..if it had been Obama the commie media would be crying with praise
Trump budget to propose slashing domestic spending...
There go the maids.
I’m here all week folks even if you don’t want me to be :)
On a serious note, OF COURSE both parties don’t care about cutting spending.
They consider themselves our kings and queens.
I truly believe that.
There might be a few deficit hawks lefg who are wailing and gnashing tbere teeth.
Sounds good to me.
One thing about our President, he does his homework. Through his Cabinet, I am certain he has already identified the cuts necessary. Some he will get through, some not. But after the cuts are identified, I hope he will tell his Cabinet to cut overall expenses by a certain amount; maybe 5%, maybe 7%, and then require monthly reports for each Secretary to account for progress made - a report to be made public.
No one is willing to tackle Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. Until they do the rest is trivial.
This is more like it. Too bad it is too late.
Posted last week was an artical about government employees spending a fortune on a huge lobster and liquor party ON OUR DIME because the money had not been used in their budgets!!! CUT AWAY this BEAST needs to be DOWNSIZED!!!
(Pentagon budget = wall budget). Increase away !
Zero based budgeting. No more starting with what was spent the previous budget year.
Please, Mr. President, slash Section 8 Voucher Housing and stop this insidious and discouraging menace.
20% of $4 Trillion is $800 Billion. That just about eliminates the annual deficit by itself... again, before a single cut is made... simply by enforcing the law and punishing the rich and powerful for their misdeeds. You'll win millions of votes from the Left by doing this. They HATE the Rich!!
(But yes, also make cuts, everywhere possible!!!)
Will the budget proposal be even close to balanced? (The last 2 White House proposals were’t). Guess we will have to wait until Monday for details. Not looking good based on Russ Vought’s article (acting director of the White Houses Office of Management and Budget): “...5 percent reduction to non-defense discretionary spending...” and an unknown % increase in defense spending diverted to the “OCO” fund (not subject to the debt limit).
President Trump should propose a balanced budget at least once during his 1st term just to make a point...he will get get a fight anyway no matter what he proposes...might as well make a point & do the right thing.
To me it depends which part of defense spending is being boosted. We need to be getting out of more places not in. If the boost is for housing, medical care, up to date gear and the like for the troops-well and good.
We are broke, we don’t need increase spending at the pentagon. Cut all spending.
Yep. This is just the equivalent of moving the deck chairs around on the titanic. It’s still going to sink.
