This is Rand Paul's most ill advised stand yet
American Thinker ^ | 03/07/2019 | Gavin Wax

Sen. Rand Paul loves the Constitution so much that he is willing to put it in jeopardy by opposing President Trump's emergency measures declaration. Paul's libertarian streak has emerged yet again — at a fortuitous time for Democrats hoping to import more voters and a calamitous time for conservatives desperate for a big victory on immigration.

"I can't vote to give the president the power to spend money that hasn't been appropriated by Congress. We may want more money for border security, but Congress didn't authorize it. If we take away those checks and balances, it's a dangerous thing," Paul said while addressing a Southern Kentucky Lincoln Day Dinner.

The above quote illustrates the problem with Paul's constitutionalist line of thinking. While Paul is concerned about proper procedure, his liberal enemies are advancing toward their next goal. While Paul is willing to surrender authority because of concerns over technicalities, the Democrats rush headlong into the next extra-constitutional power-grab that pushes the U.S. Republic closer and closer to dissolution. Paul's "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" shtick is getting old, and his principles are not usually worth defending.

The principles of libertarians and Beltway "conservatives" always seem to conveniently align with those of big business and corporate capital. This is because of a well financed network of intellectual think-tanks, activist training, lobbying programs, and university infiltration that quietly peddles influence to enforce neoliberal globalist norms among the right. The Koch brothers, for example, are libertarians who use their vast resources to prevent popular trade and immigration reforms from being supported by Republicans in Congress.

Great posts to me. Thanks. I was about ready to write P Trump and give him a ‘e-mouthful’ so to speak. And here I had been asked to be one of his campaign coordinators in this region.

The government can easily track apps
used in money transfers. Under a
declared national emergency, Trump
would not need approval from Congress
as he would be able to pursue an end
to the emergency at his discretion,
by what ever means necessary. This is
precisely why Congress is fighting to
stop the emergency declaration. He could
order ALL illegal immigrants be rounded
up and deported, and ALL those who aid
and albeit arrested.

Absolutely.

It is shocking really, how much it has changed here in just 20 years. If one stops at a red light and looks around, one can only come to the conclusion that probably half the people on the road are illegals.

This is what frustrates me to no end about the President. He’s had opportunities to do so much more for the border, but hasn’t. Why? And then he does this emergency declaration, which while it is almost certainly justified, could bite us in the rear in a few years. Get the military down there already. If the detention beds are full, put them on a military transport and ship them back.

Mexico has been NO help which is not surprising. Why we have free trade with them, when they allow human traffic, is a mystery to me.

I suspect that if Trump did take some strong actions, he would probably be removed from office, to be replaced by Bush 3 aka Pence. Ironically, one his few true friends in the Senate is Rand Paul. And people here are attacking him (and us).

I liked Duncan Hunter (Sr), but I don’t think he was much of a Constitutionalist. His son, maybe?

The only thing they could do is get 67 votes to override a veto, and with demonrats, RINOs, and Vichy republicans like Runt Paul, they may get that.

It’s not just “Runt” Paul. LOL. I’ve been looking at Senator twitter accounts tonight. Cotton, Cruz, Lee, etc. Literally ZERO public support for POTUS going back 7 days. I could look longer but what’s the point. They all hate him and/or are terrified of the donor class. Either way it is a stunning display of disloyalty to the GOP voters who elected both them and POTUS.

I think ‘Vichy’ Republican describes Runt Paul to a Tee.

Other Republicans oppose Trump for many reasons, but Runt Paul, Mitt Romney, etc., can only be described as ‘Vichy’.

The Republic will die if we continue embracing pragmatism

The Republic will die if we get another 50 million Third World border jumpers.

What's your plan for that?

I doubt you are interested in other ideas, given the tone of the response. But I am pretty sure that the enemy has a decades-long plan, which makes a mockery of a fight over a small amount of emergency funding. The President should have put troops on the border the day after his inauguration. He could have dealt with remittances. Why did he wait until year 3 of his Presidency to put his foot down?

If your children attended government schools or are currently attending, you are supporting the enemy factories which produce the voters opposed to ending illegal entry.

Yes, I like Rand, but don’t get his stance preventing the POTUS from building the wall.

I think we need to drill down on what Rand’s position actually means. There is non-emergency off-budget money to build the wall. The emergency money is smaller than the other piece. So it isn’t like there is no money. Whatever it is, the President needs to start building soon. Where is the large military force on the border? Because it will be months before the wall is completed. I think if he builds a couple hundred miles, and runs on that, he might complete it after 2020. But no matter what, the military needs to be involved in much larger numbers.

BTW If we’re going to shelter these caravans, let’s do it IN MEXICO.

Some people here going after Rand simply hate him regardless of how he votes. Some are the same who were so vehemently in favor of going into Iraq, and so they hate his Dad. Oh well.

Oh, piff. Do you imagine that what you say is so unique it's not occurred to anyone ever before?

The Left has been working their plan for at least 70 years that I'm aware of. True, but irrelevant.

Think, think, think. What's the predicate? If you've got 50 million illegals there is no civil society left. They will all be voting for RATs. That means we'll have the society and government the Sanders, the Fake Indian and Ditsy Dingaling want. What part will your Constitution play?

Expedient, indeed.

Again, predicate. Trump is not a monarch, but a President who won the office through a hostile takeover of the GOP. Had he sent the military to the border or issued Executive Orders on Day 1 he would have been neutered by Congress. He would have lost votes limiting his powers by 40 points in the Senate, by a veto proof margin in the House.

This 'should have' is useless, no worse than useless.

Think, think, think. You are not God, and Trump is not King. This is not a Kingdom, but a Republic. How hostile was the GOP to Trump? How hostile are they now?

KNOWING what to do is irrelevant. BEING ABLE TO DO IT is everything.
