City homicides have spiked nearly 30 percent through the first two months of 2019, leaving the NYPD scrambling to redeploy cops to troubled areas to stanch the bloodshed, the department said Monday in its monthly crime-stats briefing.
Through Sunday, the five boroughs have seen 53 murders this year, a 29.3-percent jump from the 41 slayings logged over the same period in 2018, according to the latest NYPD numbers.
The years troubling trend began in January, which saw 22.7 percent more murders than the first month of 2018. The situation grew even worse in February, which registered 24 murders or 50 percent more than the 16 logged in February 2018.
The homicide hike even gave pause to Mayor de Blasio, who often touts New York as the safest big city in America.
The bad news is, we see some areas of real concern, particularly when it comes to homicide, Hizzoner said. We take that very, very seriously.
Fifteen of this years 53 homicides, or 28.3 percent, were gang-related, while a dozen, or 22.6 percent, were classified as domestic, the department said.

you eventually have to face up to the consequences of your actions.”
This is always the result of the left running places; high crime, high taxes, high unemployment etc.
The left runs cities like a big shit show.
Maybe of NY had strict gin control laws, and NYC adopted even stricter laws this wouldn’t happen. Oh.
Yup. The old line black gangs like Crips and Bloods and Latino gangs like Latin Kings are up against the maniacs of MS 13 and the Mex cartels. The old timers are not prepared for the depraviyy ofbthe newcomers. The Salvadorans are vicious in a way the otgers have not been and tgey have been successful in Nassau and Suffolk so now they are engagingbtge NYPD. They have already put bounties on killing off duty NYPD officers and these guys make good. One difference with the 13s is that unlike the Black gangs who spend the daylight hours drinking 40s and smoking blunts, same with the Kings, the 13s actually have jobs. They may be your landscaper’s crew or your roofer’s. Other than their ink they don’t make a point of standing out and say Look at me. I expect the NYPD to get control for two reasons; first, they are good at this, second, unlike Long Island the City is not home to a large Salvadoran population and I expect the locals to abandon the snitchers get stiches code when the cops come seeking info on the 13s. But it will be a while.
More ineffective gun laws, that do nothing but punish law abiding citizens, will solve this.
Wait until all the “harmless marijuana offenders” get back out of jail...
The "big" cities are experts at wayyy under reporting violent crime, especially murder.
NY, Chicago, LA?
All likely much, much worse than their horrible reported numbers suggest.

Interesting side note. One of the authors of this article is Stephanie Pagones. Her Father, Stephen Pagones, was an Assistant District Attorney of Dutchess County, NY back in 1987 and was one of the men accused of raping Tawana Brawley, by Al Sharpton.
I believe that Illegals are huge part of the gang population. MS-13 for one.
Singing, “New York, New York, that murdering town”.
DeBlasio must be proud!
Electing democrats in NYC results in more crime, fewer jobs, and more poverty every time its tried. Yet they keep doing it. Fools.
Where is the 850 million you gave to your wife?
I just cannot imagine living in an environment overrun with gang bangers whacking each other!
Especially in a state as hard-over opposed to private gun ownership as New York is.
What is a private citizen to do?
