Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) on Tuesday introduced an amendment to the House election reform bill that would lower the voting age from 18 to 16 in federal elections.
"I am honored & excited to be introducing my very 1st amendment on the House floor, an amendment to #HR1, the #ForthePeopleAct," Pressley, a first-term congresswoman who represents the 7th Congressional District in Massachusetts, said on Twitter. "My amendment will lower the voting age from 18 to 16, allowing our youth to have a seat at the table of democracy."
Pressley argued in a succession of tweets that citizens who are 16 and 17 make substantial contributions to America's "labor force and to their local economy through paying taxes."

Woah this might flip Mass blue!!!
Why not 14? 12?
Raise it to 21.
This could be a nightmare, and not just based on having clueless kids voting.
If states left their voting age at 18 for state and local elections, then states and localities would have to do a split voter roll of some sort, conduct the federal elections separate from state and local elections, to accomodate the sweet 16 voters.
If I recall correctly, in the early 70s, the Congress lowered the voting age to 18 by statute, but the Supreme Court overturned it, saying that while Congress could set a voting age for federal elections, they did not have the authority to set a voting age for state and local elections.
This case led to the 26th amendment, amending the constitution to set the 18 year old voting age nationwide.
Unless the Roberts Supreme Court overturned the prior precedent, you would have to have a split roll voting scheme to accomodate separate ballots. I fear that the more complications you build into voting, the more chance of shenanigans benefiting Democrats could emerge.
would need a 28th Amendment too.
Oh, dear God, help us!
Why not 14? 12?
*************
Why not any age, even at birth. The parents can vote the child’s interest. Maybe the can even vote for aborted babies, if they can prove they had an abortion. Of course many dead currently vote Democrat, so what’s the difference. (sarc)
Personally I wish they would return the voting age to 21, as it was when I first was able to vote. And thinking back, I nor many of my friends really didn’t need to vote until we were 25 and/or employed full time.
No.
Why not 14? 12?
Why not 40? Speaking as someone who was once 40, and had friends who were 40, I dont think that most people develop their full potential (whatever it might be) until then.
Tell you what, Pressley, I will go along with Age of Majority at age 16 when Age of Consent is also age 16.
Ready to have you teenage daughter doing it with a 55 year old man?
Didn’t think so.
Set the requirement for voting identical to that for gun purchases.
Before she recommends anything she needs to be taught the difference between a republic and a democracy.
Words matter.
Raise the age to match the elected office: must be 25 to vote for congremen, 30 for senators and 35 to vote for president
“I fear that the more complications you build into voting, the more chance of shenanigans benefiting Democrats could emerge.”
And shenanigans they are as kids that age are fully saturated with the socialist/SJW BS that passes for teaching these days. It takes about four years out of high school or college for most to start grasping reality over the lies they were blasted with. Thank God a slight majority come around.
If she really wanted to do something for her black constituents besides voucher schools and restore solid black families by discouraging abortion this is what I humbly suggest support this which would bring jobs for her district;
WHY ARE WE ALLOWING CITIZENS FROM OTHER COUNTRIES
ENTER US ILLEGALLY GRANT THEM RIGHTS
THAT THEIR COUNTRY DENY US HAVING
WHEN WE ENTER THEIRS LEGALLY ???
It’s time we consider illegal entry by any person who is a non Mexican citizen illegally entering the United States through the US Mexican border a defacto Mexican citizen with limited Mexican constitutional rights subject to their laws while transiting. As well as any Mexican citizen entering illegaly exempting those who do so legally and meet US citizenship requirements. All subject to reciprocal citizen treatment a citizen of the United States receives in Mexico through the Mexican constitution on citizenship .
Besides being unable to vote one must also be a citizen to own land and Mexico is very restrictive about granting citizenship. Because of that a US citizen besides not being able to vote, and cannot have title in their name to any land property in Mexico. And until that is changed the US and the affected state should consider making that reciprocal.prohibiting citizens of Mexico or countries with similar restrictions from doing both voting and land ownership..
Also the muzzi that went over to Iraq to join Icis or whatever, now wants to come back to the USA. Her main reasoning is that she was only 19,and kids that age have no understanding of what the world is all about.
Be like giving the parents a extra vote...
That means lowering the age of majority to 16. No longer deductible on their parents taxes, not covered by parents insurance, able to purchase liquor, etc.
