Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) on Tuesday introduced an amendment to the House election reform bill that would lower the voting age from 18 to 16 in federal elections.
"I am honored & excited to be introducing my very 1st amendment on the House floor, an amendment to #HR1, the #ForthePeopleAct," Pressley, a first-term congresswoman who represents the 7th Congressional District in Massachusetts, said on Twitter. "My amendment will lower the voting age from 18 to 16, allowing our youth to have a seat at the table of democracy."
Pressley argued in a succession of tweets that citizens who are 16 and 17 make substantial contributions to America's "labor force and to their local economy through paying taxes."

49 yrs ago, Senator Ted Kennedy argued before his colleagues in favor of lowering the voting age as an effort to bring our youth into full and lasting participation in our institutions of democratic government. #16toVote #ForThePeople → https://t.co/6HUFCpIaMS Rep Ayanna Pressley (@RepPressley) March 6, 2019
Across this nation, young people are leading the way from gun violence, to climate change, to the future of work they are organizing, mobilizing, and calling us to action, Pressley said in a statement.
Her amendment would require states to "permit an individual to register to vote or vote in an election for Federal office held in the State on the grounds of the individuals age if the individual will be at least 16 years of age on the date of the election," according to MassLive.com.
The amendment is a part of a sweeping anti-corruption and voting rights bill, known as H.R. 1, that Democrats in the House are expected to pass this week. The measure, among other things, aims to expand voting rights by creating automatic voter registration and making Election Day a national holiday for federal workers.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has said the bill would not be brought to the floor for a vote in the upper chamber.
Lowering the voting age requirement to 16 has gained increasing support in states and cities around the nation. Democratic state lawmakers in Oregon introduced legislation to lower the state's voting age last month.
You @#$@#$!!! :)
I was actually gonna say why not 6?
Let others have a chance! :)
It will never get out of the Senate, and if by some chance it did, it would never be adopted by the states other than blue states.
Voting age should be same drinking age and military service age. No more or less. They should all be the same.
Going for the kill. The DEMs already own the black, illegal, and fraud voters. Might as well expand to those indoctrinated by the education system they designed.
Increase it back to 21. 30 would be even better.
The problem with lowering the voting age to whatever, means you cannot ever raise it back...................
6 might work, but they won’t go any lower than that (even 6 is iffy).
Their concern? keeping the infanticide age limit lower than the voting age limit. At some point, they will meet. Not that its a problem, just bad optics.
Should be RAISED to at least 21.
Stupid kids would ruin us further.
They make a substantial contribution through paying taxes?
I agree that should be the qualification. Paying taxes. All others need not register. There goes the democrat party.
Just about a year ago democratic lawmakers wanted to introduce legislation that would prevent teens from eating TidePods ...now they want to give those same teens the power to vote in federal elections.....can’t make this stuff up.
Perhaps they divine the votes from children in the womb, which they can then murder when they have secured their vote.
An amendment proposed by someone who has the judgment of a 5 year-old.
I am growing weary of brain-dead stupidity at every turn. These days, the inmates are truly running the asylum.
They are pretty sick folks huh? :)
Most of these Rats need to be sat at the kids table till the grow up.
Just polled the liberals at my place at work and not a single one supports this. Maybe because many of them have teenagers. ‘Nuff said.
Why not just get it over with and extend the voting franchise to everybody on earth?
Along with any welfare benefit that can be sent out of country.
Why should a person have to be physically present in the U.S. to receive the vote and all the welfare benefits?
We are so hateful and racist.
Goes along with the Dems wanting to lower age of (sexual) consent... ever lower.
Voting Birther bill? You know you get signed up to vote at birth. Hey that would stop the Dems from being in favor of abortions..
Plus the maturity level as one ages has crawled to a standstill in this country.
I’m for pushing it up to 25.
