In case you weren’t already having enough trouble sleeping, let’s take a look at some new events on the transgender front, this time coming to us from our neighbors to the north. In Canada, the idea of “transgender kids” is nothing new and parents have been dealing with some troubling situations for a while now. But this year, the courts are stepping in to take the side of these children against the judgment and wishes of their parents in a big way. A report from Salem’s Albert Mohler asks if we’re seeing the end of parental rights.
A father in British Columbia grew concerned over his 13-year-old daughter’s desire to be a boy. Counselors at school had apparently suggested that the girl (called “Maxine” in this article) start taking testosterone so she could begin to develop a more masculine appearance. The father “expressed concerns” (the mother was apparently okay with it, though why they weren’t both simply horrified is a mystery), but the government stepped in. And now the Supreme Court of Briitish Columbia has issued a ruling in favor of the child and imposing restrictions on the parents.
Jeremiah Keenan, reporter for the Federalist, documented a decision last Wednesday in the Supreme Court of British Columbia. The court ordered that a 14-year-old girl receive testosterone injections without parental consent. The court also declared that if either of her parents referred to her using female pronouns or addressed her by her birth name, the parents could be charged with family violence.
Evidently, the girl’s school counselor encouraged her to identify as a boy as early as the seventh grade. When Maxine—the name used in the Federalist article—turned 13, Dr. Brenden Hursh and his colleagues at the British Columbia Children’s Hospital decided that she, “Should begin taking testosterone injections in order to develop a more masculine appearance.” Keenan reported that while the mother accepted the idea of hormone injections, the girl’s father was “concerned about the permanent ramifications of cross-sex hormones.” Further: “Suspecting that his daughter’s mental health issues might be more of the cause than the effect of her gender dysphoria. He ultimately decided that it would be better for her to wait until she was older before she embarked on any irreversible course of treatment.”
This isn’t some local magistrate or school official we’re talking about here. It’s the Supreme Court of the Provence. They’re not only allowing foreign hormones to be pumped into a thirteen-year-old girl but telling her parents that if they don’t start referring to her using masculine pronouns they will be charged with a crime. How have we come to such a turn of events? As far as I’m concerned, adults can do whatever they want with their bodies if they’re willing to live with and take responsibility for the consequences. But we’re talking about children here.
Of course, part of the blame can be cast equally to the parents and the school. The fact that the mother was going along with the plan and the father was at least willing to entertain the idea after Maxine got a little older shows that the kid was off to a rocky start. There’s so much transgender obsession showing up in the news and spreading through schools that she could easily have been led down this path through both peer and familial influence. But the school counselor was actively encouraging the child to consider this in seventh grade. The kid was barely past puberty at that point and doubtless going through all of the confusion and maturation issues everyone faces at that age.
This isn’t quite as bad as the parents who allow their prepubescent children to take drugs to ward off the onset of puberty, but it’s still pretty bad. What happens when a few years go by and Maxine realizes shes miserable and made a horrible mistake? By that point, they’ll be looking at years of exhaustive therapy and medical intervention to bring her back to some semblance of normality… if they’re lucky.
Think this can’t happen in the United States? I’ve got news for you. It’s already starting. All that’s missing is a court case that sides with the activists. We are crashing toward a cultural abyss with all of this hysteria and, at least to date, nobody is stepping in to defend basic science and protect these children. Buckle up, campers. You’ve lived to see interesting times and it’s going to be a bumpy ride.

Do you think that the cause of this extreme insanity and leftism/Marxism on Canada’s Left Coast, esp. Vancouver, the NDP, and much of British Columbia was due, in part, to any influence the American Communists had on the dock workers there in the ports?
Was there a serious indigenous Canadian communist movement in their west or was it imported from the larger cities (Toronto, Montreal, Quebec Province, Ontario)?
I know that the Canadian affiliate of Harry (KGB) Bridges’ ILWU was almost as red as his union so I would expect some overflow from America to the Vancouver port region etc.

Communist “movements” are not some kind of spontaneous
realization of socialism as a way of life.
The ideas are always planted like
seeds in a most literal sense.
A leading cadre moves in to an area and
revolutionizes the lexicon making Marxist terminology
the every day means of communication.
Once numbed by it’s repetition a person finds nothing
wrong with using it. And, in the end if you can only
communicate using the lexicon of socialism then you become
more socialized, and find nothing wrong with using that
language even though it means something quite different
to a normal person.
This is why leading cadre are always considered the
Vanguard of the revolution.
This nation would not be in the shape it is,
if Sen.McCarthy had been successful and we could have
started weeding out the moles eating away at our
political body. I fear this will get ugly in the
not distant future. Mainly because their delusion
is so ingrained that it has taken over normality
and supplanted their reality and they will not rest
until we ALL share in it.
There are times the unthinkable becomes the thinkable; this would be one of those times.
The child has already rejected the authority of the parent; at least the father’s authority. The mother is as insane as the child is at this point.
One of my sons challenged our authority and found out I was actually willing to make my actions match my words. Though it was a miserable decision that needed making there was no way our authority was going to be challenged and he remain in our home.
Hopefully others as well.
In the ‘60s, I was a student at UBC and SFU both. The Commies in Canada were prominent in Montreal and Toronto, as you say, but Winnipeg and Vancouver were centers themselves. Hal Banks’ ILWU was as red as the US branch, and provided muscle to inter-leftist fights on the mean streets of Vancouver. the Trots and Communists morphed into Maoists and worse in front of my eyes.
I fled the Reds in ‘69 and moved up north for a dozen years. As Eric Hoffer might have seen it, Marxism has been discarded but Leninism has been preserved. It is seen in the organization of public sector unions, various identity movements, green hysteria, and etc.
I always call them Biology Deniers. It is fun to watch them through hissy fits.
I was thinking about this issue during the past few days. I was not a “normal” child growing up. I am female but preferred male company and activities. I was not pretty in any feminine way and was never accused of being attractive even though my mother was quite beautiful. I loved science and biking, tetherball and volleyball, and tended to eschew cooking, sewing and cleaning when I could avoid it. One friend said I was odd in that I talked about things (interesting facts) instead of people. The upshot is that I was felt like a kid out of step with the culture of the fifties and sixties
I shudder to think what might have happened to me had some politically sensitive school counselor encouraged me to explore my gender as though it were a changeable preference. I might have gone along with it when I felt particularly isolated from my peers. As it is, I got past my awkward adolescence, discovered I was a normal but rare type of personality, made peace with my definitely-not-Farah-Fawcett looks and blossomed in college. I got my bachelor and juris doctorate degrees, practiced professionally for a few years, met my geeky engineer husband and will this year celebrate thirty-four years of a happy marriage and three beautiful children (yeah, looks skipped my generation and doubled in my kids).
I fear that normal adolescent ennui is being characterized as gender dysphoria today and it will have ruinous ramification for these kids bullied by “woke” counselors. (As an aside, my husband and I coincidentally grew up with a quote on our bedroom walls. It was Henry David Thoreau’s “If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.”) We are still stepping to the music we hear.
Taking testosterone is very dangerous. And why if you should be “accepted” as you are, would you start drastically altering your body?

This person has a name, a face, and a home address.
If the author was halfway competent as a journalist, he’d print those and have a bevy of questions for that person to answer on the record.

It’s coming from the universities and now even public schools just like here? We have lost the education system to the left, that is why people like Candace Owens is so important.

Gender dysphoria. If it has a name, it is an illness. Treating a mental illness with butchery is medieval.
