Social media has been full of the Democrats talking about the Stormy Daniels affair with the joy and sniggers of three-year-olds who just discovered there’s a word for what you do on the potty.

This is predictable and not at all upsetting, because if these people had any political sophistication and understanding of history, they wouldn’t support a party that is more fully behind the full-on communism that has killed a hundred million human beings in the 20th century and bids fair to at least an attempt to continue its work in the twenty-first. Also, most of them have the understanding of history of Occasional Cortex and think that politics is a sort of game. All they’re really doing is signaling their membership in the “tribe.”

All well and good, but there is an aspect of this that worries me: they actually expect l’affaire Stormy to change our minds about Trump. And from their polls – snork, giggle, remember 2016? – they’re absolutely convinced they’re winning.

This worries me because it tells me just how far from reality their mental processes have gone, particularly their image of us.

Look, I don’t deny we have any number of religiously conservative people. Note, these are not just religious or conservative, but people whose only interest in politics is that their religion tells them to be conservative. And maybe those people really can be turned off voting for a president because he is sinful. (Raises eyebrow.) Except that, you know, all of those I personally know have accepted that the president —as sinful and imperfect as he is — has been the vehicle for something else.

Maybe the rank and file, what Lenin called “useful idiots” (and what I call “useless idiots”). But the leaders know EXACTLY what they’re doing. They are every bit as evil as Lenin, Trotsky, Stalin and the rest of those murderous, power-at-any-price, Bolsheviks. Don’t fool yourself, these people are NOT stupid - they are the embodiment of evil on Earth.

No rational person, in touch with reality, and not totally hate driven, could believe that you benefit society by tearing down the high achievers. You only benefit demagogues & scoundrels.

Which is why I was dismayed when Rand Paul decided not to support Trump on the emergency wall order.

Paul might be an academic and well trained general like McClellan, but Trump fights like Grant. As the author said, we don’t want to have to “shoot our way out of socialism”. Trump is giving the country a chance to avoid collpase.

Tempt not a desperate man, exactly.

The story goes that Lincoln was pressured to remove Grant from command because of his drinking. It was unseemly! Lincoln’s response - I cannot spare this man, he fights!

Lincoln is also reported to have responded to criticisms of Grant thusly:

"Find out what he drinks and send a case to each of my Generals."

I have always thought of myself of having a pretty good vocabulary, and I am definitely a “words have meaning” kind of guy, so when you corrected me, I had to look it up, because I realized it was quite possible I was indeed using the wrong word.

I read a lot from an early age, and even though there are many words I have never seen the definition of, I have found that I can discern a word’s meaning from observing how it is used in context. (I know everyone does it to a degree, but I have always found it rewarding to be able to do that.

So I don’t mind the correction at all...I meant it when I said it!
