President Trump announced Saturday he intends to sign an executive order mandating colleges and universities take steps to guarantee free speech to attain federal research grants.

“We reject oppressive speech codes, censorship, political correctness and every other attempt by the hard left to stop people from challenging ridiculous and dangerous ideas. These ideas are dangerous,” Trump said. “Instead we believe in free speech, including online and including on campus.”

Signs of the times when POTUS has to sign an EO to keep the 1st amendment alive on college campuses. This is indeed a socially engineered civil war.

Islamonazis are free to spread all kinds of filth and threats on many college campuses. Many enter USA for just this very purpose

Should not have to do this. Enforce existing laws.

Yup. College administrators should be held accountable.

Horse hockey. He’s given sanctuary cities the monies he swore they’d never get so universities will continue to get their money, too. https://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3731677/posts - Despite threats, ‘sanctuary’ cities are getting their grants

Where’s the Amendment that states universities are exempt from the Constiutional freedom of speech?

Better would be to simply end all government payments to all colleges and universities other than the service academies. Then one would not have to take measures to guarantee free speech. The market would begin to take hold once more.

I believe the entire Federal grant program for universities needs a close evaluation and revision. Some of these study and research federal grants are absolutely ridiculous.

The existing laws? The ones that say we have to give them money? Or the ones that permit free speech on campus? Or the hate speech laws? Take your pick.

Just like the sanctuary city situation, this is still one liberal judge away from nullification at least temporarily.

I say go for it, but that’s the reality.

True, but Trump is directly linking federal grant money to the performance of universities on this topic. Seems appropriate to me.

We already have an executive order on this. It’s enshrined in the Bill of Rights, it’s called the First Amendment. A free speech group should have had this before the Supreme court by now. If this was a lefty agenda item they would have organized a suit by now.
