Steve Hayes was a joke when on Fox.

Details: Goldberg and Hayes tell me they plan a reporting-driven, Trump-skeptical company that will begin with newsletters as soon as this summer

Wow, didn't see that one coming /s

FTA:

“Hayes and Goldberg are seeking investors.”

ROTFLMAO!!! I’m setting up an environmentally responsible business selling dog fart credits. Please, please invest in it. I absolutely guarantee you’ll make more money than you will if you invest in this proposed business.

HOT FLASH—They’re planning to pay the incomparable GEORGE WILL $10,000,000 a year, plus all the bow ties and newest high tech digital thesaurus he wants, to be their senior talent selector.

This, and my new dog fart credit project, are the world’s greatest new investments, ABSOLUTELY GUARANTEED TERRIFIC FORTIUNE BUILDERS.

So, they begin with an agenda.

Isn't that agenda what basically sunk their current/previous positions?

Comes to mind: The definition of insanity.

It’s lame that National Review didn’t get rid of Jonah years ago with his Trump bashing. Jonah is leaving.

If I didn’t know any better, I’d have to deduce that Trump must be doing something right just looking at the list of people who hate him.

Anti-Trump conservatives. Good luck with THAT niche market. That’s more the basis for a DC or Manhattan meet-up group than a media company.

Hayes and Goldberg are seeking investors.

Would you pick them? Or Bernie Madoff?

Jonah Goldberg... with Steve Hayes... plan a reporting-driven, Trump-skeptical company...
So, they could just have stayed at National Review. But thanks Axios for the nice PR piece.

I wonder if this move is a way of gracefully getting rid of Goldberg.

That is what I am hearing as well. Tells me that the GOP aside from Trump is not really offering an alternative anymore. They talk a good game but the last 25 years have shown they don’t mean it and run from any chance to lead the country in a conservative direction. Now the party base really is fed up with their timidity and lies.

As for the original post these turds are just an addition to the others in the punch bowl along with National Review Online. It has become the epitome of a political party rag. Buckley would go screaming into the night seeing the garbage they spew as conservatism now.

They’re like teenagers who just crashed the car, and now without any reflection upon how that happened they want a new car so they can crash again.

I use to respect the opinions of both these people and then TDS took over and they their thought went down the toilet. Part of it is because they never thought Trump, the orange baboon, would ever win (making the same mistake as the democrats) and second, they thought they were smarter than the orange baboon and that it is an insufferable insult to let an orange baboon out smart you and your elitist friends. So that means one thing: (one thing to both their honor and self respect as an intellectual, classy, enlightened human being)... WAR!!!!! War from here on in against TRUMP and the hordes of hillbilly no minds that support him. And there is enough money and people to support to their TDS.

The smartest thing they could wish for is that Trump will eventually be out of office and things can go back to the way it was when they were so lauded for their “smart” opinions. And that’s probably what they are planning for.

"We believe there’s a great appetite on the center-right for an independent conservative media company that resists partisan boosterism and combines a focus on old-school reporting with interesting and provocative commentary and analysis."

Of course. That's why the Weekly Standard is doing so well...

... Trump skeptical ....

Well, it's a good thing, because we don't have too much Trump-skepticism out there as it is. Good to see originality flourishing in these conformist times.
