GOP nightmare as Alabama's Roy Moore signals he might run again
Washington Examiner ^ | February 28, 2019 | David M. Drucker

Roy Moore, a conservative lightening rod who cost the Republican party a Senate seat in deep-red Alabama, is signaling fresh interest in mounting another campaign in 2020, sparking alarm on the right that Democratic Sen. Doug Jones could be gifted another unlikely victory.

Moore, 72, a former state judge, made the rounds at last Friday’s Alabama Republican Party dinner gala. A few days later, a new political action committee run by Moore’s son, Caleb Moore, issued an email fundraising appeal.

Republican insiders, including conservative allies of President Trump, fret that Moore — derailed by sexual assault allegations in a 2017 special election that should have been an easy layup — might divide the party in the primary and advance to a rematch with Jones. On Wednesday, a Moore confidant pointedly declined to rule out that his buddy might run for Senate next year.

The only nightmare is losing this seat in the middle of the war. With Murkowski, Collins and Mittens we can’t afford to lose Red state seats.

For you guys to blame Judge Roy,is pathetic. Blame the 30 billion dollars McConnell spent so he wouldn’t be voted out of leadership. Blame Jones pretending to be a conservative and Dems calling Roy a racist. Blame the Dems getting a woman to lie about Roy and bare false witness.

I think Roy took her to court, not something a guilty guy does. I support a real hero, officer, supremely qualified
religious man Roy Moore.

Would we not be better off with Roy and Palin in the Senate than Jones and Murkowski?

One of Moore's campaign promises in 2017 was that he would not vote for Mitch McConnell as Senate majority leader.

That would have been an acceptable approach to take if the majority leader position was open, or if there was a credible challenger to McConnell's leadership from another GOP senator. But none of this was the case. His only alternative was to vote for Chuck Schumer.

This was the kind of thing you see from a rank amateur in politics. He had no business criticizing the GOP leadership for bailing on him after that unforced error.

Look back at the man's background. He has a long track record of burning his bridges with the Alabama GOP over the years. He deserved everything he got when he lost in 2017. He is now the Republican version of Martha Coakley -- the hapless Democrat who lost Ted Kennedy's U.S. Senate seat in 2010 to Republican Scott Brown.

This isn’t a nightmare. These click bait headlines are for the birds. It’s a free country and if Moore wants to run, let him. Good luck!

Money is money and all politicians take it. Sad. And no, we’re not listening.

Moore is unacceptable to the GOPe because he is viewed as uncontrollable.

That's a valid point, but being "uncontrollable" is a death wish in legislative election.

A legislator who can't be counted on to support key legislation is absolutely useless to a political party. That's just one reason why they bailed on the guy in 2017.

I'll bet this guy wouldn't have even voted to confirm Brett Kavanaugh.

The “pedo” charges didn’t help, but this guy was an awful candidate.

Exactly correct. Roy Moore did not lose that seat, the GOPe sabotaged their own candidate to give the seat to the democrats.

Moore is unacceptable to the GOPe because he is viewed as uncontrollable.

So is the Zika virus, but I wouldn't elect it to Congress.

Moore has always been divisive, particularly to the more establishment types, but he’s had more lives than a Cat down an AL, and every time they have taken him out, he’s found a way to come back bigger...

I am not saying he’ll win, I am just saying I would not write him off... This guy seems to find a way.

Without the Pedo charges at the last minute, he’d have won last time.

If I lived in the beautiful state of Alabama I would support Moore.

I believe he was Kavanaughed!

Roy Moore is a great man and solid candidate. He has a ton of support from voters. He was railroaded and people here on Free Republic fell for the liberal subterfuge.

People having problems with him are idiots.

The people having problems with him were apparently Evangelical voters.

Sure hope Judge Roy Moore runs again. Hope the GOP gives itself a massive stroke worrying about another run by Moore as they deserve it. McConnell deserves Moore giving him a lot more grief as Cocaine McConnell refused to back him before when he deserved it. Judge Moore is not just a flunky go along to get along loser RINO. Run again Judge Moore. I’d almost be willing to move to his state and register to vote just for him.

Moore isn’t so much a problem in AL, he becomes a problem for GOP elsewhere.. and they GOPe knows it which is why they did everything they could to make sure he lost.

It will be interesting to see what happens, should he jump in again. Since they have already shot the wad on being a pedo, what last minute dirty tricks will get played this time?

The total amount spent was over $50 million.

Lies, fake Russian bots, and GOPE hatred all worked to get him barely not elected. Voters now know the lies they were given to not vote for him and they resent what happened.

FAKENEWS Buzzwords

Nightmare? Lightning rod?

Republican leaders are losers who blame their failures on popular conservatives.

Trump is evil.
Roy Moore is evil.

Roy Moore is a winner for challenging cheap labor Republican losers.

Roy Moore is a WINNER!

Opponents should join the Democrat Party and quit hiding their intentions.
