The train hit a tree that had fallen onto the tracks. It hasnt moved more than 30 hours.
Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari told CNN that none of the 183 passengers and dozen crew members were injured, but that conditions further deteriorated with numerous track blockages from snow and fallen trees.
Due to worsening conditions, area road closures and no viable way to safely transport passengers or crews via alternate transportation, Train 11 stopped in Oakridge, Oregon,
The train had power and enough food on board for which passengers will not be charged, Amtrak said on Twitter on Monday.
But Dodson said Tuesday morning that passengers had been told breakfast was the last meal available.
Passenger Carly Bigby told CNN affiliate KOIN 6 the snack cart on the train is empty and people have run out of diapers for their children.
A lot of the [older] kids have been really good but theyre having to run up and down and its a lot, she told the news station.

A foodless train in Oregon cuz of a TREE..?
Hey, THAT is a toughy..!
Did Atlas Shrug?
If we are going to have rail transit, we need to spend the money to make it operate well. To have it but starve it of capital, while at the same time complaining about the service offered just seems churlish.
Well I never heard anyone compare Amtrak with the Orient Express, but this does sound eerily similar to part of the plot from the Agatha Christie novel.
WWWGD? (What Would Willie Green Do?)
so Oregon is like being stranded on the Moon ?
Perhaps they should do a helicopter drop of diapers and food?
At least they didn’t enter the Taggart Tunnel yet...
Can we get more green than this?
This is ridiculous....Snow mobile them out....Use the military....do whatever you have to do.
And ISIS wives.
So, would this be like a hurricane party?
Or a few lumberjacks
Cannibalism should be starting at lunchtime?
We watched the most recent version of it on DVD a few weeks back. I’m so HAPPY I hadn’t read the book since High School - so the ending came as a surprise all over again.
Really well done - Kenneth Braughna’s (sp?) mustache should have had it’s own credits, LOL! :)
“What Would Willie Green Do?”
That guy was SUCH a nutcase. Amusing as all heck, though, LOL!
Several years ago I was on that train northbound around this time of year and after a less heavy snowfall. It was a beautiful trip through an area with no roads, fresh snow reflecting the morning sunlight and as you start to descend down the mountain toward Eugene, tunnels, waterfalls, valley views, and long winding curves.
Amtrak is dependent on the host railroad to keep the tracks clear. When conditions are so bad that highways are closed and workers can’t access the area to clear the problem, everything stops. On the other hand my sister in Arizona had record snow and I saw reports that Amtrak kept the schedule through Flagstaff with its record snow. The difference is that the BNSF railroad across Arizona and New Mexico is very important for national commerce from Asia via Long Beach to the US midwest and is kept open at all costs. The north south UP CA-OR route is less so and not as many resources are available to keep it operating in extreme conditions like this.
