Writer/reporter Luke Thompson divulged last week that Rep. Alexander Ocasio-Cortez, D-NY, set up her boyfriend, Riley Roberts, with an official house.gov email address, noting that he was “drawing a salary on the taxpayer’s dime.”
The self-avowed democratic socialistic was quick to dispute that notion, responding to say Roberts was set with the email account to access her Google calendar, which may not be entirely within House rules, given that they don’t appear to be married — the haste in which Ocasio-Cortez responded verified the accuracy of the boyfriend having a government email address.
And Thompson is back this week with even more damning information regarding the alleged proletariat who claims to be fighting the political class. Information that, if true, says more about Ocasio-Cortez adapting to the DC swamp than it does about her fighting it.
Taking to Twitter, Thompson lays out a case where Ocasio-Cortez’s boyfriend was paid $6,000 by a PAC owned by Saikat Chakrabarti, now her chief of staff, at a time “when her campaign was running out of money.”
The PAC is affiliated with Justice Democrats, a collaboration between Chakrabarti and Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks, Thompson noted.

Regardless, absent a wavier from House Ethics, family members have to be volunteers. AOC’s office apparently doesn’t believe in having unpaid workers, as according to Chakrabarti they have no volunteers in the office.
So Roberts is designated as staff but also isn’t on AOC’s staff, even though he showed up Friday morning in the House directory as processing into her personal office as a staffer. In other words his staff status, like his spouse status, is akin to Schrodinger’s cat

Then I thought about it. Who in the dem power base actually likes her? Her statement that she would work to unseat colleagues who are not communist enough by primarying them alone would make her hated. Add her flippant dismissal of Joe Leiberman ("who dat? New party") surely didn't endear her to the old guard power brokers in the smoke filled back rooms. And the way she shows Pelosi the back of her hand, queen Bee isn't for that! Her sucking the air out of the room everywhere she goes can't be good for these narcissists either. And finally her scuttling this Amazon deal in NYC has probably made her poison within the city dem party.
Who are her allies? A handful of new young communists that just got elected and Bernie Sanders. Everyone else in DC either resents her or considers her an upstart. So yeah, I suppose it's no surprising to see an effort to knock her down a peg.
