In early February, Google announced that its home security and alarm system Nest Secure would be getting an update. Users, the company said, could now enable its virtual-assistant technology, Google Assistant.
The problem: Nest users didn't know a microphone existed on their security device to begin with.
The existence of a microphone on the Nest Guard, which is the alarm, keypad, and motion-sensor component in the Nest Secure offering, was never disclosed in any of the product material for the device.

Repeat after me:
Google is da debil
Google is da debil
Google is da debil
Google is da debil
Google is da debil
Google is da debil
Google is da debil
Google is da debil
Google is da debil
Google is da debil
‘Google’ is Russian for ‘Colluuuuusion’.
China will vouch for that.
No wonder all the aliens moved to other planets in distant galaxies.
Sometimes, you have to take drastic steps to protect yourself these days.
I knew this months ago. Alexa warned me about Google’s Nest. She promised me that I could always trust her and that she would never betray my trust and gullibility. /Sarc
As a contractor who goes in thousands of homes I can tell you never ever ever ever never never never ever ever put Alexa or any of the stupid ring nest or any other devices in your house
They were also never told if there is a camera in the unit. Is there a camera? Who, other than Google, knows?
um... it is a camera! wth people! all those type cameras have microphones built in!
you people need to stop being scared.
ITS FREAKING SECURITY !
you need to be able to LISTEN to what is going on sometimes, and I can guarantee you can you TALK also! I have a similar security system and know exactly how it works.
I still have my Samsung DumbPhone flipper from 2006, and no Nest, cameras in the computers.
When I leave the house, I’m unplugged. The phone only makes/takes calls.
I know too many people who are wired-to-the-teeth, and I’ve told them to “un-wire” and get the gov’t out of your home.
they should be sued into oblivion for violating privacy of people.
Oh wait! The lawyers will never allow that. Silly me.
These smart devices seem kinda stupid.
That Alexa is one scary voice.
Not in my condo.
Also the top management and any share holders who knew about the microphone before-hand.
Sue the f’ers until they are destitute and homeless.
It is past time to make a MEANINGFUL PUBLIC EXAMPLE of idiots like this.
What should we put in?
The choice for mankind lies between freedom and happiness and for the great bulk of mankind, happiness is better. — Orwell
Alexa wants me to talk. My phone wants me to talk. My laptop wants me to talk. My wife wants me to shut up.
Assume that any of that stuff is a bug listening to everything within the frequency of your dog’s hearing.
Now that right there is funny!
These days, I would add car and TV as well.
"Alexa wants me to talk. My phone wants me to talk. My laptop wants me to talk. My wife wants just tells me to shut up."
Me: Opening fridge.
Alexa: “Do you want to order broccoli?”
Me: “No.”
Google Assistant: “Should you really be having that ice cream?”
Me: “Shut up.”
