A scientist who raised early alarms about climate change and popularized the term "global warming" has died. Wallace Smith Broecker was 87.

The longtime Columbia University professor and researcher died Monday at a New York City hospital, according to a spokesman for the university's Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory. Kevin Krajick said Broecker had been ailing in recent months.

A bit south of the Columbia University campus is a relatively small chunk of land called "Central Park".Scientists say that there's irrefutable evidence that very recently in the earth's history Central Park was enveloped by a glacier that was 2,000 feet thick.

Yet today there's nothing more than a few inches of snow seen on the green grass of the Park.

Strangely,the Professor never attempted to explain the disappearance of that glacier.

Global warming has happened before. That is how last ice age ended.
