Jewish advocacy groups have protested after an American reporter erroneously referred to an uprising against a “Polish and Nazi regime” during World War II.

While reporting from the Polish capital on Wednesday, Andrea Mitchell, a foreign affairs correspondent for the MSNBC television network, suggested that a World War II-era uprising by Jews in the Warsaw ghetto was staged against “the Polish and Nazi regime.”
The American Jewish Committee's Warsaw-based Central Europe office has responded in a tweet that “it is beyond the pale to assert Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto fought against ‘Polish and Nazi regimes.’”
The organisation added: “This is basics of history: they rose up against the German oppressor. Journalists should do their homework before speaking to millions.”

Meanwhile, the Forum of Polish Jews has tweeted: “Andrea Mitchell of NBC/MSNBC, in a report from Warsaw, has said that the Warsaw ghetto uprising was fought against ‘the Polish and Nazi regime.’ What can one say about such a gigantic, shameless instance of ignorance?! This is an absolute scandal!”

The Polish embassy in Washington has corrected Mitchell in a tweet to say that “the 1943 Warsaw Ghetto Uprising was a heroic act against the German Nazis who established the ghetto and carried out the Holocaust.”
The Polish embassy also said that during World War II “Poland was attacked and occupied by the German Nazi regime.”

Indeed. After sending the message to the AK that they would be launching their attack on Warsaw, and then they did nothing.

Andrea Mitchell’s reporting is like that line about the Germans dropping the bomb on Pearl Harbor.
One of the other things the Soviets did, was to provoke tensions between Christians and Jews in Poland, to divide-and-conquer.
I remember a conversation in the coffee room when I was in graduate school. An American graduate student with a German surname was trying to get an Israeli graduate student to say that the Poles shared in the blame for the Holocaust, and the Israeli refused to take the bait.
The fruits of that psyop are still fresh, as you can see in modern politics.
Yes, they exploited differences well - as did the Germans.
There were plenty of people in other countries who participated in the mass killings, but Poland would be at the bottom of any list I’d draw up (and I have no horse in this race whatsoever). In areas in which the Nazis initially pushed back the Soviets (and which later were re-incorporated into the USSR), the populations there were more brutal than anything I’ve heard committed by Poles.

Churchill and Roosevelt got played by Communists in their own administration who were directing all their efforts toward helping Stalin and his regime gain as large a foothold in the West as possible.
Funny how the Austrians, get a pass, though.
I’m no expert on it, but I believe Churchill thought he’d been played by Roosevelt and Stalin.
It is very creepy when you see propaganda movies shown to US audiences at the time; they really wanted Americans to believe Soviets were “just like us” - led by teddy bear “Uncle Joe” Stalin.
The Venona Papers and other documents examined after the fall of the U.S.S.R. in the 1990’s, show proof of the many spies within the Roosevelt AND Churchill administrations. Churchill probably had a more clear-eyed picture of Stalin and disliked him with a passion not shown by Roosevelt.
Nonetheless, both relied on tainted voices in making decisions. One well known example is the defiance shown by officers “on the ground” in Berlin after WWII ended. The Russians were simply going to take it over, but patriotic mid-level American and British officers concoted the Berlin Airlift which turned the tide. Reviewed later, it was seen that their efforts were fought every bit of the way by Communist advisors above them.
I’ve watched a lot of Russian movies, in almost all of them, they try to show that the Americans and Brits were trying to go behind the Soviet Union’s back and make separate a deal with the Nazis, although nothing of the sort ever happened.

Not only are Polish individuals the most numerous Righteous Among the Nations at Yad Vashem, but also noticed there is that up to two million Poles helped Jews despite the death penalty for doing so. Many of the righteous were young Catholic boys and men. Yad Vashem!
Poland, like everywhere, had pre-existing Jew-haters, but was far from being the worst offender.
As they say, the Austrians want people to think that Hitler was German and that Beethoven was Austrian.

I’m sure both were infiltrated, but Roosevelt never went to war over Poland - that was what made it worse for Churchill.
