Congressional negotiators in Washingon, D.C. reached a tentative agreement which would avoid another government shutdown Monday night. But those plans have not been solidified yet. Current IRS employee and formerly-furloughed federal worker Mary Peterson was impacted during the 35-day government shutdown. During the shutdown in January, Peterson said she faced the threat of eviction from her apartment complex."The thought of borrowing money is just another debt I can't afford right now," she'd said at the time. "Wow, I may be homeless." Since then, Petersen, like countless others, have had to rebuild their lives and recover the two missed paychecks. Thankfully, she had a little help from a different KXAN viewer along the way.

Cue the tiny violin music.
Well, Ms. Peterson, I see al that “protection money” extorted from you by the Government Union didn’t protect you at all.
Tell me, what is it Unions do for their workers?
Long before the days of Dave Ramsey, folks knew to have a rainy day fund. It is difficult to have sympathy for someone who cannot miss two pay checks. They simply are living beyond their means and are not being money smart.
Unfortunately, nobody is calling these folks out.
You will always have the poor with you. - Jesus
But do we always have to have the stupid, too?
There’s no violin tiny enough!
“Since then, Petersen, like countless others, have had to rebuild their lives and recover the two missed paychecks.”
Seriously? Rebuild their lives?
Had I been working for the Govt, first day bwck at work would’ve cancelled union as they apparently were doing very little or nothing. Also, local restaurants were feeding them. Why didn’t house and Senate open THEIR facilities?
Only the media could think the rest of us would have sympathy for a spendthrift IRS employee.
Hey lady. Get a real job being productive, not stealing money from the peasants.
But do we always have to have the stupid, too?
A lot of the poor are poor because they are stupid.
I recall the UAW strikes along the I-94 corridor in the 60s and 70s
Every shop - big to little - in Detroit and out had picket-line walkers. Every 2-3 days, the UNION bosses would show up with boxes full of food for every picket walker. They used union money to buy the food.
When she gets her back pay, she’ll return the funds, of course.
Gee, never occurred to her to seek out temp employment? It’s hard for those who actually lose their jobs, often times due to the fault of others, not their job performance.
Does anyone remember the Obama era for god’s sake? We all knew those who lost jobs, lost pensions as parts of our country were being boarded up while the debt/spending was reaching $22 TRILLION! I hate this leviathan of a government that is absolutely worthless as are a great portion of the Republic’s people.
She got her back pay the week she started back. I’m married to one, I know.
Seriously, cry me a river!
By the way, evictions can’t even be started with the first months missed rent. In most States you need to miss three before the papers can be filed by the property OWNER (emphasis added)
