Outgoing Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) warned in a USA Today op-ed on Monday that the GOP "seems stuck in the 1950s."

Kasich, who is considering running for president in 2020 after a failed bid in 2016, also said Republicans haven't learned from their losses in the midterm elections.

He does have a point.

This is not the 1950s White Leave it to Beaver America anymore.

Women do NOT want to be at home.

They are millions of working women who juggle and balance home and work.

The Republicans need to adapt to this. Whites will only be 66% of the electorate in 2020.

That is a warmed over meme from Norman Lear days (except he used "Ozzie and Harriet")

Women can speak for themselves, and plenty of them wish they COULD be at home, at least during their children's formative years. I don't know of any Republican policies, much less conservative ones, that require women to be at home.

Kasich, for his part, has "evolved". Whereas he used to be a reliable pro-life vote, he was most recently vetoing pro-life legislation. He has forfeited his standing as a Republican.

Plenty of Hispanics and black people are more up on social conservative values than on the free trade/deficit hawk side of the Republican ledger. Trump has made huge inroads with the Hispanic vote, all without pandering or speaking Spanish.

Trump IS addressing a 21st Century American Party's needs. True, we are hemorrhaging Silicon Valley millionaires, nuts and twig types, and suburban bimboss from hell. We are gaining regular folks who want to earn a family wage for honest work with out a social science Masters' degree and a lot of disaffected Americans who had been left out, some of whom still watch the Rifleman and Perry Mason on MeTV (having outgrown Leave it to Beaver, I suppose).

Wanting to restore patriotism, work ethic, family values and anti-globalism is not a mere nostalgic craving. It is good politics. What's more ... it is the right thing to do.

“The Republicans need to adapt to this.”

And just how should Republicans adapt to “this” truth you and Kasich agree on?

Open borders? One world government? Socialism? Surrender?

How does Kasich differ from Obama?

That would be a poor investment on Soros’s part... even the debates require a certain % for a candidate to get on the ballot and with such a huge list of Dems, Dem voters are not going to want to switch just to cause Trump a problem in the R primary.

My father, who lived through every decade of the 20th century, told me many times that the Eisenhower years (1953-60) were the very, very best of times. Every one who wanted to work had a job, things were cheap and plentiful. It is something we should aspire to, not run away from or criticize. If there were ever a Golden Age of the USA, it was the 50s.

Adapt and acknowledge to the fact that America will never return to the nuclear family of the 1950s. NEVER. NEVER.

They are millions of divorced Americans, single-parent households. Period.

This is the new “modern family”. Adapt to it or get swept in the ashes of history. Period.

I finally realized of what the Kasich/NeverTrumper lot reminds me...Lt. Hauk from Good Morning Vietnam.

Think of Trump as the Robin Williams/Cronauer character...outrageous, unorthodox, maybe not who you'd want upon first blush but he is just what the troops wanted. Kasich/NeverTrumpers are the Lt. Hauk/polka-loving guy who think they know what's best for us little people. Even when faced with the facts that nobody likes them, they remain arrogantly confident that they're correct.

Here is the text of the scene in question:

-Staffers: We've gotten duffel bags filled with information asking for Cronauer's reinstatement. The men all hate Hauk. They want Cronauer back. He's an exhilarating personality, and polkas are just no substitute. - I think I see a pattern forming here.

- Sir, these letters are unequivocal. Uh, e.g. "Hey, Hauk, eat a bag of sh**. You suck." That's pretty much to the point, sir. Not much grey area in this one. We got one positive call from some guy in Wichita who thought Hauk's comedy was visionary and interesting.

-The other calls said that the man can't do comedy to save his di**. - That's a direct quote, sir.

- I've taken 9O calls this morning. They just don't like Hauk.

From a marine in Da Nang: "Captain Hauk sucks the sweat off a dead man's ba***." I have no idea what that means, sir, but it seems very negative to me.

General: I think the troops are tryin' to tell us somethin', fellas.

Hauk: Sir, if it is my programming choices, I can change. I've been broadcasting the polkas because I thought a certain segment of the men... weren't represented by Cronauer's broadcasts of rock and roll. But I can easily play an occasional Gay Lewis record.

General: It doesn't make a damn whether you play polkas or don't play polkas. Military politics. Nothing personal. The men just like him better than they do you.

Hauk: He maliciously and with purposeful intent read unofficial news.

General: No, no, no, no. He made a mistake. We all make mistakes. Now this thing is a delicate balance over here... and I don't want it dependent on a disc jockey. The men want him back, I want him back.

Hauk: Sir, you heard from the men who don't like my humour, but what about the silent masses who do?. And as far as polkas, they are a much-maligned musical taste.

General: Lieutenant, you don't know whether you're shot, fu**ed, powder-burned or snake-bit. I don't care about polkas. They're rioting in Hue. We're bringin' in thousands of troops every month. Terrorism's on the uprise in Saigon. The problems of this country have not one g***mned thing to do with... whether you play polkas or don't play polkas. The men want him back. I want him back. Reinstate the man.

Hauk: Sir, in my heart... I know I'm funny.

General: Thank you, Lieutenant.

Anyone that thinks that non whites and women should be the exclusive property of democrats is a fool. Many people of color and women are already Republicans and many more are wising up and seeing what the Dems are doing to them. Republicans that want to be Liberal Light like Kasich and Romney, are worthless to everyone. Liberals will vote for real liberals and conservatives are tired of holding their noses and voting for Rinos. Kasich and his brand are done.

“What was so bad about the 50s?”

Absolutely nothing. The prick was born in 52 and has very litlle memory of when America was still America. Those were golden years.

This country was a lot more united and happy in the 50's you dipshiite!

Blacks were starting and running businesses while maintaining normal families. They were clearly becoming part of mainstream America. Communist professors were not tolerated in colleges, where students still got a balanced education.

Hollywood had a lot of actors that were veterans and would never put up with the anti-American garbage current actors love. Homosexuals in Hollywood knew to stay in the closet and were not demanding constant attention to their sickeness.
