GOP/Dem Border Deal: $1.3B for Wall, No Increase in Detention Space (only 55 new miles)
Breitbart ^ | February 11, 2019 | John Binder

A Republican-Democrat border security deal that is expected to be offered to President Trump funds about $1.3 billion for a United States-Mexico border wall and includes no increase in detention space to control increasing illegal immigration at the border.

[Snip]

This funding is set to provide about 55 miles of new border wall along the roughly 2,000-mile long southern border. Much like the 2018 omnibus spending, which prevented Trump from building a border wall out of new materials, the deal is set to tack on stipulations as to what the barrier can be made from and where it can be placed.

[Snip]

Defense Department officials have reiterated that Trump does not need approval from Congress and, also, does not have to declare a national emergency to begin construction of the border wall. Instead, the president could have invoked 10 United States Code § 284, which authorizes the U.S. military to build barriers at the southern border, a Pentagon official has testified to Congress.

Trump needs a new party.

******************

I cannot think of anything that should be more clear at this point. The Gutless Old Party is useless and is way beyond its shelf life. The GOP needs to be replaced.

What happened to “not one penny” Nancy?

Wall is under construction in California and Texas right now. More miles coming.

California is only 40 miles away from a fully walled border.

It’s all good. How many miles would we have under ANY other candidate for President in 2016?

This is a bill for FY2019 which ends in September. They will have trouble getting the $1.8b appropriated and committed by the end of the FY. Meanwhile, the Office of Budget is busy reprogramming 2 year money to meet Trump’s requirements. That will be done quietly after this matter is passed.

Meanwhile, the clueless can rant and rave, post using all caps phrases and large fonts, and threatening to charge off and elect Rand Paul or some other nut case. Let the fools be fools and trust Trump.

IMHO, money for wall is less important than the authorization. If the word “wall” is anywhere in the agreement... it’s good to go, $$$ will be found. DemWits are showing themselves as hypocrites yet again... and don’t have a clue when they have been out maneuvered! Media “Lewinskys” are like enablers and have left the DemWits unprepared for a real fight... IMHO.

Take the money, and use it to build in California. Use other funds to build the rest.

I’m tired of this discussion; everyone has already shown their cards. Declare the national emergency. Build the Wall. Press for a rapid review when America’s globalist enemies file a case in front of their hand-picked Obama judge. And then make all the necessary funding available to build 1,900 miles of Border Wall this year. Don’t just go for symbolic progress - get the job done now.

President Trump doesn’t need this issue to get reelected. Instead, he can point to the accomplishment and push for a second big task for his second term. [I want that to be deporting every single illegal in our country, but it’s better politically if he articulates a different priority during the campaign and then deports all those criminals while also accomplishing his new goal.] How about ending HIV/AIDS completely as a second-term goal?

Throw in three more Supreme Court picks, 100-plus lower court judges, and a shift toward smaller federal government and more restrained spending, and the Trump Presidency will be a big win for America.

The same amount that was offered before the last shutdown.
Should be rejected.

In the open is better. Still, what percentage of the 30 million undocumented voters in this country would turn saboteur?

How many saudis did it take to level the world trade center? 14 or 15 was it? What could 300,000 Mexican nationals do?

Plata o plomo? Trump has all the plata any man could want, in the event of a declared war they will do everything they can to give him enough plomo to last the rest of his life.

I submit subtle approach might be better.

Let’s not just post our feelings on FR. Consistently and continuously send clear messages to your Senators, Representatives, and our President. Let THEM know what you expect and that you will not except anything less. I’ve already made my rounds this morning. Keep it up!

I’m thinking that the democrats place thier hopes on the idea that POTUS will declare the need for the wall as an emergency, only to have it eventually go to the USSC, where Bushbot Justice Roberts sides with the left.

The way things are organized, subtle puts it all in the hands of the very same Deep State players and groups that have been working to take Trump down since he first talked about possibly running for President.

Not subtle puts it in the hands of the military, State, and local police, all of which are far more likely to try and do their tasks right rather than creating embarrassing screwups and failures.

If the vaunted trillion plus dollar machine created since 9/11 sill can't uncover and head off plots like the WTC with every form of communication in the country vacuumed up and analyzed, it's more likely that Detroit Muzzies or a gang of Somalis will commit a similar act than gangs formed around their ability to rake in cash, cash that will quickly be cut off or reduced to a sliver of the current volume with an open, obvious, strong presence of the military on and near the border.

Trump knows that accepting this trifle may very well be a read-my-lips moment for him. This is why he keeps saying “the wall is already being built.” If that’s the case why was the govt shut down? I’m a strong Trump advocate, but I don’t think conservatives and others concerned with border security will buy this; we’ll see it as just one more: “Thank you, Nancy. Thank you, Chuck. May I have another?”

The GOP doesn’t want a wall and wants Trump to fail. He’s playing a very weak hand here trying to play high stakes political negotiating without the support of his own party.

The same amount that was offered before the last shutdown.

Less, I think. Wasn't it $1.7 billion before the shutdown?

Maybe he is going to do it. There have been some times where I thought that, although he was the only person worthy of voting for, that he was like all the rest. Only to be pleasantly surprised.

I think he underestimated just how deep the corruption and greed runs through that city. I think we all did. I don’t think any of us realized just how bad that place and those people really are. The farce that is the Mueller debacle and what senior FBI officials tried to do is, unfortunately, just one example that we’ve been treated to.

I’m of the thinking that the wall is going up, whether they like it or not. But, he’s playing a longer con on them than a lot of us would like him to.

IMHO, something isn’t right about Ginsburg. He knows it. He cannot do anything about the Mueller thing, nor can anyone else, because anything will be labeled obstruction and he doesn’t need that. I think he’s waiting to get one more pick on SCOTUS and then all hell will break loose as he’ll have no obstacles. Roberts will be ineffective as the new Kennedy. I think you’ll see Breyer call it quits because his vote won’t matter anymore. If he gets a solid team on SCOTUS, I think you’ll see Birthright Citizenship go the way of the DoDo, among a few other things. If/when that happens, those 120 million will shrink down to about 1 million or less, as the Gravy Train is no longer running.

With all the solutions that have been presented to fix the immigration mess, IMHO, other than a complete moratorium on any form of it for the next 30 years, only three things “need” to be done: End Birthright Citizenship and all the benefits that go with it...End forever, the refugee scam that is played on the country and, again, the Birthright Citizenship that goes with that...deny and cancel any and all benefits to illegal aliens, no matter what(give them a $1000 bucks to start a new life as they’re deported and sent back home).

As for the Dem Party, I think you’re correct. Again, I’m thinking it’ll fracture into different parts though. You’ll have the Clinton/Miller/Nunn type Dem’s that will probably vote Libertarian, might even cross over, as they realize that Cortez wants to take their 401Ks, for her socialist fantasies.

"Dead on arrival!"

Don't think so. President Trump just gave a very soft on camera answer about not being happy, but he was going to augment funding from other sources and he thought another partial shutdown was unlikely. Didn't outright say he would sign it, but it sure seems likely.

We shall see. Nothing in this business is a sure thing. If there is BS in this deal it will be rejected.
