That’s true. It must be really weird. I’m on the East Coast, and on election night 2016 we had to stay up WELL past the point of exhaustion to see the final results. For West Coasters, though, it would have been just past prime time!
I think we had it better, though. It made it all more special somehow to have to wait half the night for :-).
Just like Abrams giving the rebuttal for the SOTU. She, just like beto the Irishman, is a “rising star”. Losing elections is a good thing, I guess.

I lived in California (central valley) for a time.
It seemed that the rest of the country had it’s events and we found out about it later.
That was back when California had a republican Governor. Reagan. Very different place back then.
So Cruz takes the stage and RSBN craps out.
