Senator Lindsey Graham wants to hold Democrats' feet to the fire on the Green New Deal and is asking for a vote on the non-binding resolution.
Graham knows the Green New Deal would never pass Congress. In fact, Democrats arent united behind the bill, which moderates fear will alienate key bases of their support, including unions.
Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez unveiled the Green New Deal bill Thursday, and Massachusetts Sen. Ed Markey introduced a companion bill in the Senate.
The resolution calls for 10-year national mobilizations to fighting global warming by eliminating all carbon dioxide emissions from all sectors of the economy, including the power industry, agriculture, transportation and every building.
There's no chance a vote will ever come to pass in either the House or Senate, of course, but that's hardly the point. Every major Democrat running for president has endorsed a Green New Deal, meaning they are on the hook for supporting this lunacy. This is great news for Donald Trump's re-election chances.
Equally notable, however, was the list of who signed on most of the major Democratic presidential candidates in the race so far.
What they have pledged loyalty to at the moment is mostly a slogan and an idea the particulars of the Green New Deal, and even the price tag, have yet to be worked out. Nevertheless, their enlistment in the crusade marked an important moment in both the presidential race and the changing nature of the political debate over climate change.
Every signal appears to be that the Green New Deal is going to be a major part of the presidential election, said Anthony Leiserowitz, director of the Yale University Program on Climate Change Communication. This is in no small part because the larger political dynamics have shifted on climate change.
Faster, please.
Keep talking, Democrats. It will do no good to say that you're for a Green New Deal -- just not the Green New Deal proposed by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Her proposal will live on and be solely identified with the issue -- much to the delight of Republicans who will crank out campaign ads targeting the really stupid stuff, like eliminating cow flatulence and taking airplanes out of the sky.
Meanwhile, Ocasio-Cortez revealed the real agenda of the Green New Deal:
The Green New Deal also calls for repairing historic oppression among certain groups and putting in place a slew of welfare programs, from universal health care to government jobs guarantees.
So really the heart of the Green New Deal is about social justice and its about allowing and fighting for things like fully funded pensions for coal miners in West Virginia, fighting for clean water in Flint, and fighting for the ability of indigenous peoples to take a leadership role in, in where were moving as a country, Ocasio-Cortez told NPR Thursday.
This cockamamie scheme is not about saving the planet. It's about massively expanding the size and scope of the U.S. government, making mincemeat of the Constitution, and spending trillions upon trillions of dollars to make us all dependent on government.
It's as if Vladimir Lenin has been resurrected and his plan to nationalize business, industry, and capital has been reimagined.
The reaction to Ocasio-Cortez's plan has been so negative -- even from Democrats -- that she's been forced to pull the text from her website. It's that bad.
Graham has the right idea. Democrats should not be allowed to quietly tiptoe away from this massive political blunder and they should be told to put up or shut up.
Got me for sure. I’m calling BS that she was at some performance an few days ago. I think she assumed room temperature and is now on ice.
It will kill more people than Meow’s “Great Leap Forward”, it was a 10 year plan too.
We can take a vote in the Senate with every Republican voting for it. That way it has to pass on to the House. Then the fun begins.
Just like they did with McStain. I believe that traitor died in the summer before the death announcement. How does a guy with a horrible brain tumor and a drool cup attached to his mouth tweet? Nope. Dont think so.
RBG will, if not already, be given the weekend at Bernies treatment for as long as it takes just to mess things up on the SC. Someone needs to REALLY get on this. It stops another PDJT appointment and the libbies know it.
That’s what they are hoping for. It’s a long way off though for them, so they may be just trying to get past this first session of cases. They’ll never drag her across the finish line till year end, then try to invoke the stupid Biden rule. But yeah, she’s on ice and I think you’re right about McManiac.
Wonder how much they paid her family to keep their traps shut?
“I presume you mean the new way to get to Europe once air travel is banned.”
Yep
Thank you very much Alloy.
You are the reason I visit this site daily.
Your explanation of the Global Warming Hoax is the best I have ever read. It was not only clear buy concise.
Thanks again for posting this blasphemy(sarc).
Standing tough under stars and stripes
We can tell
This dream’s in sight
You’ve got to admit it
At this point in time that it’s clear
The future looks bright
On that train all graphite and glitter
Undersea by rail
Ninety minutes from New York to Paris
Well by seventy-six we’ll be A.O.K.

PING. This is excellent, authoritative commentary, alloysteel. I learned something about our atmosphere. Well done.
Are there any layman’s books you recommend to read on the subject?
Good list, especially:
5. The small number of news and network wire services which feed the thousands of news outlets.
What they do is pollute the minds reading every newspaper in the country.
Someone can run against him . . . but a newbie isn’t going to get chairmanship of the Senate Judicial Committee. Who would be a possible replacement for him in that spot? Not just his Senate Seat.
John Cornyn is next in line to head Senate Judiciary, follwed by Mike Lee.
Don’t know, the majority of GOP Senators are Bush League Republicans.
There are only 5 or 6 that side with the citizens and the rule of law.
Most of them need to be replaced if we want to keep our country.
Thanks for that info. Is John Cornyn planning on retiring or running again? I’m currently living away from my home state of TX so I don’t know the answer.
Agree.
