Senator Lindsey Graham wants to hold Democrats' feet to the fire on the Green New Deal and is asking for a vote on the non-binding resolution.
Graham knows the Green New Deal would never pass Congress. In fact, Democrats arent united behind the bill, which moderates fear will alienate key bases of their support, including unions.
Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez unveiled the Green New Deal bill Thursday, and Massachusetts Sen. Ed Markey introduced a companion bill in the Senate.
The resolution calls for 10-year national mobilizations to fighting global warming by eliminating all carbon dioxide emissions from all sectors of the economy, including the power industry, agriculture, transportation and every building.
There's no chance a vote will ever come to pass in either the House or Senate, of course, but that's hardly the point. Every major Democrat running for president has endorsed a Green New Deal, meaning they are on the hook for supporting this lunacy. This is great news for Donald Trump's re-election chances.
Equally notable, however, was the list of who signed on most of the major Democratic presidential candidates in the race so far.
What they have pledged loyalty to at the moment is mostly a slogan and an idea the particulars of the Green New Deal, and even the price tag, have yet to be worked out. Nevertheless, their enlistment in the crusade marked an important moment in both the presidential race and the changing nature of the political debate over climate change.
Every signal appears to be that the Green New Deal is going to be a major part of the presidential election, said Anthony Leiserowitz, director of the Yale University Program on Climate Change Communication. This is in no small part because the larger political dynamics have shifted on climate change.
Faster, please.
Keep talking, Democrats. It will do no good to say that you're for a Green New Deal -- just not the Green New Deal proposed by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Her proposal will live on and be solely identified with the issue -- much to the delight of Republicans who will crank out campaign ads targeting the really stupid stuff, like eliminating cow flatulence and taking airplanes out of the sky.
Meanwhile, Ocasio-Cortez revealed the real agenda of the Green New Deal:
The Green New Deal also calls for repairing historic oppression among certain groups and putting in place a slew of welfare programs, from universal health care to government jobs guarantees.
So really the heart of the Green New Deal is about social justice and its about allowing and fighting for things like fully funded pensions for coal miners in West Virginia, fighting for clean water in Flint, and fighting for the ability of indigenous peoples to take a leadership role in, in where were moving as a country, Ocasio-Cortez told NPR Thursday.
This cockamamie scheme is not about saving the planet. It's about massively expanding the size and scope of the U.S. government, making mincemeat of the Constitution, and spending trillions upon trillions of dollars to make us all dependent on government.
It's as if Vladimir Lenin has been resurrected and his plan to nationalize business, industry, and capital has been reimagined.
The reaction to Ocasio-Cortez's plan has been so negative -- even from Democrats -- that she's been forced to pull the text from her website. It's that bad.
Graham has the right idea. Democrats should not be allowed to quietly tiptoe away from this massive political blunder and they should be told to put up or shut up.
He’s seen the light since his buddy assumed room temperature.
Those who want to see Lindsey GONE, whod you want in his place in this power position?

Someone who sides with the citizens and the rule of law.
No wonder we are stuck with so many Bush League Republicans hell bent on turning the USA into North Mexico, you people are easily fooled.
The thing that irks me is that had the republicans had put this out, the airlines, businesses, etc would be screaming bloody murder to the press. Only senator herotio from Hawaii said, not a good plan for Hawaii getting to DC without airplanes. I cant stand her but she at least said that.
I presume you mean the new way to get to Europe once air travel is banned.
They want us back in the near stone age when boats were propelled by sails. Farming done with hand tools or animals. Travel by foot. Freight hauled by ox carts or people pulling carts. Solar heated homes, even in Alaska during the dark months.
I’d love to see an honest debate where subjects as the above are openly discussed.
Got any names?
State Sen. Lee Bright ran against him last time.
Hope he makes another run.
I agree. Lindsey 3.0 is good too~! And we just might have front row seats to how good when RBG bites the dust.

The “Green New Deal” is built on several hoaxes. First - that carbon dioxide is a pollutant that threatens the quality of life on Planet Earth. Fact: Life on earth is indivisible from the presence of carbon dioxide. Period. End of story.
The second hoax is that mankind can do anything even slightly perceptible in regards to the concentration of carbon dioxide in earth’s atmosphere. The natural processes of nature preclude any variation in the concentration of carbon dioxide beyond a relatively narrow window, as these natural processes produce VASTLY far more CO2 than all the “fossil fuel” furnaces ever built by man, even if stoked up and running flat out at the max and all simultaneously. One good vent from a volcano achieves this all by itself, let alone rotting vegetation and other organic material, or lightning-strike fires raging through old-growth forests or grasslands.
Carbon dioxide is being reabsorbed and “fixed” as some form of carbohydrate through the life process of sunlight shining on green growing plants in the presence of sufficient moisture and warmth, in what is a relatively narrow band of optimal activity between just above the freezing point of water and about 90 degrees on the Fahrenheit temperature scale.
The third part of the hoaxes being imposed is that carbon dioxide affects in any way imaginable the average daily temperature of the biosphere of the planet. The great regulator here is a much different component of the atmosphere, and one that is HIGHLY variable, water vapor, a most wondrous compound which can simultaneously exist ins three different states of matter, as a solid, as a liquid, and as a gas, depending on the amount of latent heat energy the compound contains at the moment. Water vapor has approximately the same index of heat absorption as carbon dioxide, with one very important difference, or perhaps two important differences. There is anywhere from 30 to 100 times the concentration of water vapor in the atmosphere at any given time, as there is of carbon dioxide. thus far more heat energy shall be absorbed by water vapor than ever could be by carbon dioxide.
A second great difference is that water vapor, on a molecular basis is much lighter than carbon dioxide, and thus, far more likely to RISE to heights in the atmosphere than CO2 ever could. When you look high in the skies and see a jet-propelled aircraft at 35,000 feet leaving a condensation trail across the sky, that trail is composed ENTIRELY of water vapor. As the CO2 from the exhaust cools, is sinks rapidly from the stratosphere to a level within about a couple of miles above the sea level in the atmosphere, and does not rise above what is known as the “tree line” on mountain ranges, and at very high altitudes, virtually no vegetation at all exists.
Other clouds form from water vapor, and those at very high altitudes are composed of very fine ice crystals, the solid form of water. To change from vapor form to ice, the molecules of water have to give up an ENORMOUS quantity of heat, you can look this up in textbooks, but trust me, it is BIG. This heat has to go somewhere, and as the earth turns away from the sun, it is radiated off into space, from the night sky. By dawn, the heat balance on that side of the world is depleted, and the now much cooler atmosphere causes changes in the average density of the entire atmosphere, which is equalized by air currents moving from one point to another, creating weather as we know it. This very majestic daily energy shift is what makes all the other earthly processes repeat endlessly, and is far more powerful, in the total sum, than any small disturbances mankind shall ever be able to institute.
“My guess is that McCain had photos of him in bed with another man, and now the president owns those photos.”
Agree with your first point. But why would he pass them on to the president? I’d sooner believe that he bequeathed them to his bovine daughter, but she hasn’t needed to use them yet.
“They want us back in the near stone age”
That is true. They want US back to near stone age. However, they, the elite ruling class, will enjoy everything that the hoi polloi will be refused. Does anyone think THEY will give up their planes and cars?
Speaking of room temperature, wheres Ruth bader Ginsberg been lately?
She’s with Jeff Sessions setting up the military tribunals in Gitmo.
Are we sure that the middle-American voter, who voted twice for Clinton and twice for Obama and in a majority for Hillary, does not like and does not approve of all the self-destructive aspects of Donkey’s Green New Deal?
It just failed in Finland!
So they really don’t need to redo the experiment.
Both my Senators need to be replaced....And I’m in OK.
Going to plays, hitting the gym, meeting with her personal trainer. The Washington Post said so! They provided no actual evidence but they're the Washington Post! They have the credibility of Tom Hanks!
