The Supreme Court is stopping Louisiana from enforcing new regulations on abortion clinics in a test of the conservative courts views on abortion rights.
The justices say by a 5-4 vote that they will not allow the state to put into effect a law that requires abortion providers to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals.
Chief Justice John Roberts joined the courts four liberals in putting a hold on the law, pending a full review of the case.
The four more conservative justices, including Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh, would have allowed it to take effect. Kavanaugh wrote a dissent explaining his vote.
The law is very similar to a Texas measure the justices struck down three years ago. Roberts dissented in that case.
Oh, the nazi homeland security and tsa, are close seconds.
Why the heck SHOULDN’T abortion doctors have admitting practices???? They “claim” to be doctors.

She hasn't been seen of heard from in 2 months, yet she votes. Why isn't anyone screaming about that?
GW Bush following his father’s way.
No he’s the new Souter.
Wrong. He’s the worst by a mile.
What are the baby killers trying to pull here? Where is Ginsburg?! And don’t say at a concert in a dark corner!
I guess the problem is that hospitals do not want to be involved with the abortion practice and will not give abortion doctors admitting status, therefore PP locations would have to close.
PP says that if there is a problem, the patient goes to whatever hospital she wants and by ambulance if needed. The hospital will call the abortion doctor if they need information. They regard this law as unnecessary and is actually what would happen if the doctor had admitting privileges. They claim it’s an effort to close down abortion facilities, which it does.
Jeff Chandler: Shouldve stuck with Harriet Miers.
DesertRhino: “Who would have voted with the sisterhood on abortion, upheld Obamacare, etc...”
I would guess that Harriet Myers is VERY pro-life, because Jay Seculow, who has argued for religious freedoms at the U.S. Supreme Court, strongly supported Harriet Myers at the time.
What could go wrong with a medical procedure? Why not have hospital privileges? Woundn’t that make customer feel more confident when choosing services? Wouldn’t that help with lower insurance costs? Wouldn’t that help in case of a law suit?
Yeah, so much for state’s rights... Thanks Roberts. Even though he wants a full review of it- as if he would change his vote.
The four conservatives together can force it on the docket and force Roberts to decide. If Roberts tells them he’ll overturn the law, the four may not want to bring it up, leaving the fight for a better time.
The vote was 5 to 4, so she voted with the majority.
In NY now, abortionists don't even have to be DOCTORS.
What is that photo (Roberts and...?)
Was rbg there, IN PERSON, to hear arguments?
Very good news on Kavanaugh.
Roberts was clear in his confirmation hearing that he believes in avoiding overturning decisions as much as possible.
Did anyone read it.
The decision was not to enforce the new law till a ruling by the court en banc
Ill ping a real lawyer and a pseudo lawyer like me too..lol
