What's being called a "Green New Deal," a wide-ranging effort to tackle climate change, with overtones of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's sweeping 1933 New Deal to counter the Great Depression, was unveiled by Democrats Sen. Ed Markey and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Thursday on Capitol Hill.
"Climate change and our environmental challenges are one of the biggest existential threats to our way of life, not just as a nation but as a world, and in order for us to combat that threat we must be as ambitious and innovative in our solution as possible," Ocasio-Cortez said at a news conference.

CAIRO – Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden has called for the world to boycott American goods and the U.S. dollar, blaming the United States and other industrialized countries for global warming, according to a new audiotape released Friday.
In the tape, broadcast in part on Al-Jazeera television, bin Laden warned of the dangers of climate change and says that the way to stop it is to bring “the wheels of the American economy” to a halt.

These proposals have all the economic and scientific wisdom and insight of a freshman pot party.
They’re trying to base this change on technology that doesn’t exist yet, or is in it’s infancy and just not efficient enough, or takes a lot of carbon emission to get the hardware for the “green” technology. It’s a fools errand at this point in time.
But millions of illegal aliens pouring across our borders, bringing drugs, crime, and disease and human trafficking children is a "made up problem."

Right now we say we want to move from suicidal gray capitalism to something eco-capitalism where at least we’re not fast-tracking the destruction of the whole planet. Will that be enough? No, it won’t be enough. We want to go beyond the systems of exploitation and oppression all together. But, that’s a process and I think that’s what’s great about the movement that is beginning to emerge is that the CRISIS is so severe in terms of joblessness, violence and now ecological threats that people are willing to be both pragmatic and visionary.

Here's the original source for the Van Jones quote about the time he spent in jail following the Rodney King/LA riots (Jones was arrested in "peaceful" protests in San Fran). It was in a 2005 interview he did with East Bay Express. They of course (what else?) claim he "renounced his rowdy Black Nationalist ways" since then (yet he's calling for "complete revolution" in Aug 2009! ...see above):
But in jail, he said, "I met all these young radical people of color -- I mean really radical, communists and anarchists. And it was, like, 'This is what I need to be a part of.'" Although he already had a plane ticket, he decided to stay in San Francisco. "I spent the next ten years of my life working with a lot of those people I met in jail, trying to be a revolutionary." In the months that followed, he let go of any lingering thoughts that he might fit in with the status quo. "I was a rowdy nationalist on April 28th, and then the verdicts came down on April 29th," he said. "By August, I was a communist."

It’s pretty disrespectful to the capabilities inherent in the earth too. The earth has been through far worse.
This sounds, at best, like the whining of people who don’t have the motive to adapt. One does not want gross pollution, and it’s easier to prevent that kind of pollution than to have to shield against it.
