New U.S. Experiments Aim To Create Gene-Edited Human Embryos

A scientist in New York is conducting experiments designed to modify DNA in human embryos as a step toward someday preventing inherited diseases, NPR has learned.

For now, the work is confined to a laboratory. But the research, if successful, would mark another step toward turning CRISPR, a powerful form of gene editing, into a tool for medical treatment.

A Chinese scientist sparked international outrage in November when he announced that he had used the same technique to create the world's first gene-edited human babies. He said his goal was to protect them from infection with HIV, a claim that was criticized because there are safe, effective and far less controversial ways of achieving that goal.

In contrast, Dieter Egli, a developmental biologist at Columbia University, says he is conducting his experiments "for research purposes." He wants to determine whether CRISPR can safely repair mutations in human embryos to prevent genetic diseases from being passed down for generations.

Haven't we used similar.methods to produce faster growing, higher yielding corn, wheat even chickens?

Hillary was “so honored” to be given the Margaret Sanger Award before the 2016 election. Sanger was a founder of Planned Parenthood and an outspoken supporter of eugenics, cleansing the gene pool of those she considered inferior, such as Blacks. And Hillary was “honored.” Of course, she had received thousands of dollars in campaign donations from PP, just as Gov. Northam has. They’d be proud to assist in abortions if PP required it in order to get the cash.

I know that many people blow off that this is the end times because *people always think they are living in the end times*, but that’s not the reason I think that.

I think it because this world has come to a place technologically that the human race cannot survive much longer if moral integrity is not restored, plus the technology that we enjoy enables a great deal of end times prophecy to be fulfilled that could not have been even a generation before.

Total government control is now a possibility with stuff like microchipping and tracking us through our phones and other technology.

It was only a matter of time until we began using our hard won knowledge to improve the human gene pool. I don't fear this development at all.

This really irritates me, as it's not difficult to do this, in the least (could easily teach most FReepers to do gene editing if they were truly interested), and this is just another example of a ‘wannabe celebrity’ scientist seeking fame rather than doing good science.
