The number of shark attacks around the world fell by about one-quarter last year, with the US and Australia reporting the highest number of them.
There were four fatalities worldwide, in line with the long-term average of six, according to the annual release of the Florida-based International Shark Attack File.
The US had the most shark attacks on humans in 2018, with 32 confirmed cases and one fatality. This was markedly lower than the 53 attacks there in 2017. Half of the 2018 attacks took place in Florida.

Didn't see it in the piece but can we guess that possible cause? Ocean warming/glow-bull warming/salinity levels due to increased 'see-uh-O-2'?

Of course we could see signs at the beach reading:
“NEW IMPROVED OCEAN WITH 25% LESS SHARK ATTACKS!”

It obviously couldn’t be from anything other than Glowbull warming. It is probably causing the sharks to eat more dolphins, baby seals and polar bear cubs instead of people. /s

Global warming, Trump’s fault, women & minorities hit hardest, diversity is our strength.
That should about cover it from the liberal perspective.

Yeah, but, when you add in ocean/surf attacks by frikken laser beams, the numbers rise back to normal.
It seems everyone is going high-tech...even sharks.
To: blueunicorn6
Sharks love to eat vegetarians. That’s why there are so many attacks in California.

Now wait a sec! “White males” have to be properly accounted for in any such reckoning.
To: rktman
No doubt, Glowbull Warming, and when the shark attack rate rises again, also Glowbull Warming.
Or if it remains exactly the same for any measurable period of time...

RECORDED! Almost forgot that little item. I wonder how many “un-reported” attacks occur. Hmmmmm. Sounds like grant writing time. ;-)

I need $100 Million dollars for a scientific study to prove that global warming reduces shark attacks.

Possibilities include:
- They are regrouping for a mega attack
- Beach attendance is down - Mission Accomplished
- They hired a public relations firm which bribed the incident reporters
- They've identified countries that don't report attacks and are attacking there.
- They're trying to lose weight.
- Low carb diets have made us less fatty and less palatable.
- They're going organic because of the chemical load in humans.
- Land Shark attacks are being reported as muggings insted of shark attacks.

Are you thinking “Sharknado”? As far as the land sharks, could they have come out of the river in chitcago and attacked “juicy” in the bitter cold of Tuesday morning? Either that or ISIS.
