From the report: “At the time of this project’s completion in 2018, an emboldened and expansionist Iran appears to be the only victor. Iraq, the traditional regional counterbalance for Iran, is at best emasculated, and at worst has key elements of its government acting as proxies for Iranian interests.“

Iran is overextended. It has overreached, like China, because of Obama’s timidity.

When Congressman Ron Paul spoke out against the Iraq invasion he accurately predicted virtually chapter and verse what was to come. He was absolutely correct in his prescient analysis. Too bad he was ignored. Otherwise the nation may have been spared the intolerable grief of over six thousand brave young Americans killed, tens of thousands more physically and psychologically maimed, trillions squandered, a severe economic recession and the political ascent of Obama. These foreign entanglements in alien lands have and continue to severely hurt the nation.

I stated it multiple times...they should have TAKEN THE OIL FIELDS, and used the revenue and profits to pay for our occupation time there and handed over the money to the families of our fallen soldiers. Stupid Dubya handed them over to those clowns like France who stayed away and did not help us.

What were these cowardly pukes called by Don Rumsfeld: Old Europe...

I agree with the Army’s assessment. If overthrowing Saddam was so important, we should’ve worked with people within the Ba’ath Party to stage a coup and keep the governmental infrastructure in place. While the Ba’ath regime was a brutal one, it was effective in providing a counterweight to Iran in that region. To invade and upend the entire government was an unnecessary venture that paid off far less compared to the losses and expeditures incurred. It was truly a collosal mistake.

Yeah, especially since Obama the first female president made certain that Iranian interests were served in Iraq.

Poke them in their eye with the arrogance only a muslim can have.
Trump was elected by the right hand of God, but first to save a Nation he must secure the Southern border against the hoards that might well include Iranians once God and Trump finish the job they have set about to accomplish against Iran. For eight long years the forces of evil conspired with the full bridle of American power aligned against us - the Muslim Brotherhood is no longer sitting at the heads of every American Agency and in every planning meeting as was under Obama. Trump has forced Iran to squander the cash reserves and forfeit their economy on a sustained war footing. They are at the base of the Golan, they are in South America, they are in Iraq and Lebanon... they are arrogant and have pushed their resources to the very limits to achieve a final battle. But Trump is going to give them a long retreat back to Iran while at the same time the people rise up against the corrupt Kommani II and his cleric henchmen. The jackboot of the false prophet is going to become crushed. While Trump repositions American power in different sectors, Air Power is going make life a living hell for the Syrian and Iranians - and possibly the Russians if they don’t disengage soon. By the time Trump is thru with Iran and Syria, there will be more than one regime change - Qatar may well go down. Turkey will find themselves forced back into their borders too. Once US troops are out of harm’s way on the ground, Death from Above will rain down like blessing from Angles. God doesn’t really sort them out, they just rot in the desert like so many before them.

Fake news.
The war ran continuously from 1990 to 2018.
A hell of a lot longer than these idiots put forth.
28 damned years.

Bush wanted this result. I remember loving Bush and supporting him on Iraq and following this so closely and seeing Iran take over while Bush watched and Bush had ZERO defense of Iraqi Christians. So disillusioned by the guy. Now look.
Bush is painting delusions and criticizing President Trump. Never said one negative word about Obama. Not one.
There went his legacy.

I'm not sure I agree with this.

Evicting Saddam from oil rich Kuwait was absolutely essential.

Around 2000, when Saddam began to block weapons inspectors and fire triple-A at our recon planes, there had to be a forceful response, but not necessarily an invasion.

Final point - Iraq is 60%-65% Shia Muslim. They were the largest and poorest ethnic group in Iraq, and they had very little political influence under Saddam, especially when it came to the subject of Iran.

Saddam took insane political risks and gambled away his control of Iraq by attacking his neighbors.

I don't think the result of that gamble should surprise anyone.

The groundwork for the Iranian ascendancy was laid by George H. W. Bush, SecState James Baker and U.S. Ambassador to Iraq, April Glaspie in 1990.

When Sadaam Hussein informed Glaspie of his intent to annex Kuwait Glaspie told him the USA wasn’t concerned about Arab vs Arab conflicts.

So Sadaam took that as an indication the field was clear and he invaded Kuwait.

He found out that Glaspie was wrong when the USA responded in 1991 with the Persion Gulf War to remove Iraq from Kuwait.

In so doing Iraq’s military power was virtually destroyed.
Since then the mid-east has been a can of worms for 28 years now, sucking US treasure and killing and wounding thousands of US military men.

The Gulf War and subsequent war and conflict has destroyed what little stability did exist in the area prior to 1990, and as other posters here pointed out. leaving Iran as the supreme power in the area.

All this shoulda woulda coulda nonsense is ridiculous. “If only we had...” What idiocy.

ANY interventionist course in the Middle East will end up in disaster. ANY course. EVERY foreign power that stuck it’s nose in there got it chopped off. The people there are just nuts. You interfere to your own peril.
