Frustrated Republicans say its time for the Senate to reclaim more power over foreign policy and are planning to move a measure Thursday that would be a stunning rebuke to a president of their own party.
GOP lawmakers are deeply concerned over President Trumps reluctance to listen to his senior military and intelligence advisers, fearing it could erode national security. They say the Senate has lost too much of its constitutional power over shaping the nations foreign policy and argue that its time to begin clawing some of it back.
Power over foreign policy has shifted to the executive branch over the last 30 years. Many of us in the Senate want to start taking it back, said a Republican senator closely allied with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).
They plan to send Trump a stern admonishment by voting Thursday afternoon on an amendment sponsored by McConnell warning the precipitous withdrawal of U.S. forces from Syria and Afghanistan could put at risk hard-won gains and United States national security.

You make an excellent point on both 0bama and Romney.
Almost everything they represent is the love of money.
Congress critters need to look at raw intel and not the distilled conclusions.
This was the biggest driver for having the states call for an Article V convention of states for proposing constitutional amendments.
If the states proposed an amendment to repeal the 17th amendment and it were to be ratified, McConnell would lose his source of power because there would be no more Senate elections, and therefore, no more need for campaign funds.
IMHO, this is why there is such ferocity in attempts to discredit and sow fear and doubt over an Article V convention, because the most likely proposed amendment would be a repeal of Senate elections and the returning of Senate appointments to the state legislatures.

Mitt Romney and the RINO deep state Blue Bloods are pushing this.
Absolutely. Romney wants all the power he can get.
The “Good Old Boys” working together for themselves.
Further proof that the Republicans in the House and Senate do not like the President, do not respect the President, and do not fear the President. Trump has to change that.
The same asses that enabled and empowered Obamas evil agenda. Go figure.
Exactly. I don’t recall them complaining or rebuking Obama for his pallets of cash to Iran. Should we conclude that they were on board with that foreign policy?
The Hill of Crap again
This is being caused by two things:
1) McConnell’s love-affair with the Military Industrial Complex.
2) The SWAMP is mad that Trump isn’t listening to their BS “intelligence reports” (which means they can’t control the foreign affairs of the US).
The Legislative Branch isn’t supposed to control our foreign affairs - that falls under the purview of the Executive Branch!!!
Besides, didn’t both the Republicans AND the Democrats rebuke the “intelligence agencies” for their inaccuracies and bias? What happened? Did these intelligence agencies all of a sudden get “accurate” and grow some “dignity?” LOL!

The GOP... trying as hard as they can to go from 7% approval rating to 2%.
Is this the same Senate that spent years passing continuing resolutions to fund the U.S. government -- including foreign military campaigns that the Senate never voted to authorize in the first place?
This is why Donald J. Trump was elected. "The Swamp," indeed.
It really is time to destroy BOTH major political parties and begin the process of a complete reformation of the federal government. And yes, that’s a call out for “Don’t Tread on Me”.
How many years do we have to be in Afghanistan?
____________
Start counting in decades, apparently.
And it leads to the perfect rejoinder by President Trump:
So Trump is expected to now LISTEN to the same people who are trying to overthrow him (i.e., the ‘intelligence’ community)?
Yea, that makes sense.
I’m calling FAKE NEWS !!
McConnell gave money to Murkowski to run as a write in and win against a Republican challenger who was on the ballot. Murkowski hasn’t kissed his ring.
These dipwads wouldn’t even know against whom to declare war. Want to know what is going on in (hopeless) Afghanistan? Check out Lawrence Sellin. He takes no prisoners. Hint: Pakistan and China are the key players.
