The Cops Were the Aggressors in This Week's Deadly Houston Drug Raid
Reason ^ | 1-29-19 | Jacob Sullum

On Monday evening in Houston, a dozen armed men broke into the home of Dennis Tuttle and Rhogena Nicholas, a middle-aged couple who had lived in the house at 7815 Harding Street for at least two decades. The first man through the door, who was armed with a shotgun, used it to kill one of the couple's dogs. Tuttle responded to the home invasion by grabbing a revolver and shooting the man with the shotgun, who collapsed on a sofa in the living room. As Nicholas tried to disarm the intruder, his accomplices shot her. Tuttle returned fire, and by the end of the shootout he and his wife were both dead. Four of the assailants were hit by gunfire, while a fifth injured his knee.

Cops have said they recovered marijuana from the home. They won’t say had much. They have also said the recovered some “white dust.”

IOW the cops fked up another urban commando raid that shouldn't have happened and people are needlessly dead...again.

I’m gonna step out on a limb here...

I don’t know them personally, but I have a friend who does. She has know them since the early 90’s.

Both of them were disabled. Him because of a traumatic injury. Her because of a medical treatment that did not play well with her system.

Why didn’t HPD arrest him an hour earlier when he walked his dogs? Something he reportedly did every day.

Why did they lock down the entire neighborhood for 12 hours? Art and the Mayor were saying they were searching for other suspects.

Several people heard Acevedo repeatedly say Hardy Street.

Why was the first undercover in using a shotgun? Is that common?

Why did they drag Gamaldi out to threaten anyone who questions HPD? He did that before 6:30.

It wasn’t a pit bull, no matter what the media and Art say.

Okay, you've sufficiently hijacked the thread... idiotically, post after post.

It's okay to STFU now. Really.

You must not have read the posted article.

The "confirmed buy" was from an 'informant'. (thin basis for warrant)

The only confirmed substance found was marijuana.

None of the weapons were even semi-auto.

The allegation was black tar heroin....none of which was found.

The plain clothes cop started the gun fight by shooting the dog.

The information cops presented to get a warrant says their undercover informant bought black tar heroin there and saw large quantities of the heroin there.

From the article: "Acevedo used the deadly drug raid as a pretext to push gun control, saying politicians should enact policies to curtail "the proliferation of firearms in the hands of people that have no business having guns."

Yeah, I'm sure we can believe and trust Acevedo. /s

“What prevents this from happening to me or a loved one?”

The only way I can think of is to live in a very small community where you can be personally acquainted with all of the LEOs. It helps if your town is on an island so that any strangers are immediately known and recognized.

I didn't plan it this way. It is a happy coincidence, but I find myself living in an island community of between 2500 and 3000 souls. there are 10 municipal cops and one State Wildlife Trooper plus a USCG cutter stationed here. I don't know all the Coasties, but I am not too concerned about that.

If things get really weird, there are smaller island communities that have NO LEO at all. Granted, it is a bit inconvenient, some might say the weather sucks and, well, who ya gonna call?

So it comes down to a trade-off. What's most important to you: security - convenience - comfort - liberty - earning opportunities - good weather - happy wife...

But was it at Harding Street or Hardy Street?

“white dust” = wheat flour?

Or, as was the case for an article I read earlier today, it could be laundry detergent.

I see no laws or procedure violated. The officers were attacked by a pit bull and the couple was found with cocaine or some other white powder drug. It is absurd to claim they are victims.

Before you go too deep with the BOOT LICKING and LEATHER CARESSING, perhaps you should wait for further investigation/details. I think most posters here are merely asking for more actual information and questioning somethings that are clearly not totally adding up to t “righteous” police operation.

Since they didn't find any 'black tar heroin' after what I would guess that it's entirely probable that their oh so trustworthy 'undercover informant' made the whole thing up. Sadly, the two dead citizens have no recourse, because they are, well, dead.

We have the details. The police had a valid warrant. The turned the siren on flashers in their vehicles. The shooting started when the officers were attacked by a pit bull.

What we have is pro-drug, anti-police liberaltarian types that want drugs legalized no matter how destructive that would be to everyone else's quality of life.

The only confirmed substance found was marijuana.

https://abc13.com/disabled-veteran-and-wife-killed-in-shootout-with-police/5110865/

Police recovered two shotguns and three rifles from the residence and seized marijuana and a white powder they believe to be either cocaine or the powerful synthetic opioid fentanyl, Acevedo said.

https://abc13.com/disabled-veteran-and-wife-killed-in-shootout-with-police/5110865/

After a 54-year-old officer, the lead investigator on the case, broke open the front door, a 33-year-old officer armed with a shotgun entered the residence and was immediately attacked by a pit bull, Acevedo said.
