About 20 tons of gold from Venezuela's central bank was ready to be hauled away Tuesday on a Russian airline's Boeing 777 that landed in Caracas a day earlier, a Venezuelan lawmaker wrote on Twitter.

Venezuela plans to bring home around 160 tonnes of gold, worth more than $11bn (£7bn).
"The gold is returning to where it was always meant to be: the vaults of the Central Bank of Venezuela," Mr Chavez said.
Hundreds of troops lined the route to Caracas as a convoy of armoured security trucks escorted by military vehicles carried the bullion to the bank.
'Historic act'
Officials said the gold had come from European countries but did not say how much was in the first shipment, citing security concerns.
Central Bank chief Nelson Merentes said the return of the gold to Venezuela was a "historic act".
"It has historic value, it has symbolic value, and it has financial value," he said.

Why put it all on one plane? Think what happens if it crashes in the ocean.
Think about that, at $840M for 20 tons it means a tone of gold ... a TON ... is worth $42M. I don’t know if that’s correct but let’s assume it is. It really puts into context what a 1,000,000 dollars is. You can buy around 23 tons of gold for it. Congress throws around billions like it’s nothing and I think people have no real concept of how stunningly large amount of money $1,000,000 really is.
I agree with your scenario. There’s some middle-man who likely has some yacht ready to go and his stake is one-third of the gold, with Maduro getting a yacht at some undisclosed location and a Cyprus bank account with 400-million. My bet is that a plane picks up Maduro....heading off to Africa, and eventually delivers him to some port in the Med.
Putin has dumped tens of billions of dollars propping up Chavez and Maduro. He’s getting some of it back before Maduro falls.
