Ernul, N.C. — Julie Toler calls the outcome of the two-day search to find her great-great grandson ,"a miracle from God."

Toler says she lost sight of Casey Hathaway, 3, on Tuesday while he played outside her home in Craven County.

“They play out there all the time. They go back and fourth from my house to my daughter’s house," Toler said. "I’m glad he’s fine because it would have been terrible for everybody if something happened to him."

Authorities from the FBI, U.S. Marines, professional search teams and volunteers joined the search for the young boy over a two-day span.

The boy endured freezing temperatures on Tuesday and wet downpours on Wednesday.

The child was found because a tip from a lady in the area who was walking her dog - haven't read the name of that lady. But it had to be God who found him.

Read the story - Casey remains hospitalized but is now playing games....but read this: "Toler says Hathaway told family members a bear kept him safe for two days in the woods. They are not sure if the story is accurate but are just relieved he is safe.".

What do you think of that?

Some more on the story of 3 year old Casey who was found after being missing for two freezing nights out in the cold.

Read about how the child says he was “protected” while he was there......and how the tip came to be (a lady walking her dog heard him crying out for his mom).

The bear was probably stashing the kid for a midwinter snack and somehow the kid got away. Just guessing.

“What do you think of that?”

I think if you are caring for a three year-is child, you should do a better job and not let him wonder off in the woods for two days.

Probably so.....Amazing that the child was not bitten and that the boy saw the bear as his “protector”. I believe there were angels around this boy protecting him.

I totally agree. The great grandmother says the children constantly ran back and forth between her house and her other family member’s house. She got complacent and non-attentive.

She won’t ever be allowed to watch those children again, I am sure.

Just my thought. I’ve never heard of a bear befriending a human. They’ll eat anything and they stink. Probably from raiding garbage cans. We’ve got a lot around here and have had to shoot rounds over their heads to scare them off. I have a feeling it’s a made up story cause bears are usually hibernating this time of year.

Your speculation bears some consideration.

I said the same thing on another thread about this.

Glad I am not the only one with this thought!

There surely were a lot of prayers being said for this little boy. God acts in mysterious ways His wonders to perform.

I think that bears are omnivores however they usually don't kill a live animal unless they're starving....they'll eat carrion.

the weather is not bad in that area this time of year and bears don't actually hibernate, they sleep deeply and wake up occasionally....

the story could very well be true, even if the bear was just laying down and sleeping, he was still a companion to the child....

I’d love to think that bears can be friendly. But I’d love to think liberal commies actually could have a rational thought. Na.

"The child was found because a tip from a lady in the area who was walking her dog"

What was the "tip"? She heard? saw him? why didn't she go to the child?

If someone walking their dog could find him while searchers couldn't...I'm not buying the bear story. The child was recently placed where he was found.

You’re right. It would be easier to reason with a bear than the Lefty commies we are surrounded with.

I still don't see how you don't go help the child but rather call the police to do it. How could you hear a child calling for his mother and not help him?

Obviously the police needed to be called but first you do what you can to assist. Callous, in my opinion.

There are a startling number of children that disappear and when found talk about bears or hairy giants helping or taking them.

I isn’t a bear it is a Sasquatch.

Bears don’t behave like this. They couldn’t abduct a child without leaving a mark on it.

Perhaps. I wonder if it wasn't a large dog? (The kid is 3.) I recall reading a true story about an Indian up in Alaska. He and a buddy dumped their ski-do into the water. The one guy was able to get out, but not strong enough to pull the other out of the cold water.

The one guy walked back to the village cold and wet in sub-zero temperatures. He would stop and rest and thought of just laying down an dying, but he wouldn't/ couldn't because of his life-long friend. Even after hours and hours of walking, figuring his friend was dead by now, but he kept going.

Miraculously, he made it back to the village, and a bunch of guy's snowmobiled back to the lake/river where the guys had fallen in.

They got back, and there was the other guy, still hanging on to the ice alive! I forget how long the guy had been in the water - something like 10 hours or more. He said that his mother was from the Bear Clan - so he imagined himself as a bear, hibernating for winter. Perhaps something about the “Bear Spirit” coming upon him. I think there was also a connection with his life-long buddy. “I know George isn't going to stop until he gets back to the village, and he'll have gone through hell to do it. I'm not going to let him do all of that just in vain. So I've got to hang on!”

Anyway - strange stuff can happen!
